Default L92/LS3 Vic Jr. Height

So, I have a carb 408 with ls3 heads and a super Vic intake in a 94 Camaro. The issue is that the back of the carb is dangerously close to the windshield. I’m wondering if I switch to a Vic jr will it lower it enough to clear? The super Vic measures 7.25” from the valley cover. Does anyone have this measurement on the Vic jr?

Dremel diamond bit cuts glass, just go slow and notch it out a bit.

I’ve thought about doing that, I’m just afraid of cracking it.

Could always replace it with an opticarmor unit.

Good point! So, would you use a diamond disc on a dremel and slowly score the glass evenly?

Any idea how much clearance I need? I’m using stock ls1 motor mounts with poly bushings. Not sure how much the engine will twist/move under load.

Ya you dont want to try to cut through it in one pass. Depends how stiff the poly is, mine have a bit of poly and it doesnt move very much. Hard to tell from pic, are you concerned about the engine rocking side to side or leaning backwards?

It would take a good bit of twisting motion side to side to make it hit, but if it rocks back any at all it’s going to hit. If I had 1/4” cut from the glass I don’t think it could hit. It’s 1/8” or less from it as it sits.

It was actually hitting it before I filed down the screw.

I ended up switching to a shorter GMPP intake and have plenty of clearance now.

How much shorter are the intake passages? That will affect the torque curve. Shorter moves it higher.

They’re quite a bit shorter. It looks like this intake wants 7k+ rpms, but I’m setup for 7,500+ rpms. I’m hoping it’ll be ok for my setup. If not, I’ll try to get my hands on a Vic Jr. once they’re available again.

Have you made any comparable runs with both intakes?

I haven’t done any comparisons. I was afraid to run it with the super victor since the rear float adjuster was so close to the windshield.

Edelbrock is really good about providing specs on their intakes. Look up the part # on summit or the edelbrock site and it should give a chart with overall height, looks like a super vic part# 2826 is 7.670inch tall and a JR part # 28456 is 7.4" tall. I had similar problems with my GenI SBC carb swap in my 95, I was running a GMPP high ram and it cleared, but it was super tight getting an air cleaner on it for street duty, swapped to a vic JR for SBC and gained me like another inch+. Good point slow sedan on the dremel or swapping to an optic armor. I thought about going OA, but some of the street style races I was planning to run with the car say must have a glass windshield, something to consider OP if you're building the car for a specific use.

I’m not sure where Edelbrock gets their specs, but they aren’t accurate. My super vic was actually 7.25” high. The victor jr is a little over 6” if I remember correctly. This is measured from the top of the valley cover.
