Default MSD 6014 timing

Just finished and Carberated LS1 swap into a Squarebody Chevy truck. Using the MSD 6014. The motor is a mild build with a summit 8707r1 cam. Can't seem to get it running. It will crank over and then spit out some gas through the carb. Fuel pressure is regulated at 6psi. Seems to be a timing issue. Trying to find a timing curve for the MSD box that will work. The regular LS1 setting on the box seems close but can't get it to run steady. Any help would be appreciated.

It should run on any of those settings.
Make sure the coils are grounded and your using the right harness (24x or 58x)
Are you using a actual 5.7 LS1 or some other Ls engine?

I believe the cam and crank are setup correctly, engine was built at reputable shop. Motor is an LS1 out of a 2000 Camaro. I have the coils ground directly to the heads where they are discharging the spark. Could this be related to the tuning of the carb? I have an edelbrock Avs2 650.

NEVER trust ANYBODY. Verify the cam install dot marks at the very least. If you had ANY idea how many "reputable shops" were actually a bunch of grifters hiring minimum wage labor, it would infuriate you.

Why not run temporary grounds outside the car with alligator clips from the coil packs and MSD 6014 straight to the battery to eliminate that out?

Hard to check ignition timing on a LS since there's no timing mark on the cam cover. I guess you could get the engine to top dead center on #1 and put a mark with a paint marker on the timing chain cover and HB

I had issues with mine but they were due to having the grounds of coil packs on the valve over bolts and battery relocation grounding related

Yea ive moved the ground all over the place and no change but currently have both coil packs grounded on the back of the motor by the valley. And I downloaded the msd view software and can watch the ignition timing dance around 13 degrees when I'm able to get it to idle but just ordered a new box from summit so we'll see if it changes cuz I got the box 2nd hand

Jesus 13° ?? That's probably why I have mine locked out 36° at all times. Daily drive it and it runs amazing. I doubt my engine would even run at 13°

excuse me for reviving this thread. im sorta having same issues. i see that he changed out his msd box for a new one. mine is new. tuned it to 10* at zero rpm, 24 @ 2500 and total of 36. it runs fine. but where im having issues is at IGNITION. i have to give the switch short turns, several times. after like the 5th time itll fire. any one having that issue? is it still timing? the msd box? thanks for the knowledge and yalls time. much appreciated
