The old style 6010/6012 used psia...So, it looks backwards from the old school distributor vacuum advance.

MAP is measured against PSIA, not RPM. Depending on conditions, atmospheric pressure is 14.7 PSIA. Vacuum "pressure" is lower (I.E. 15" vacuum = 7.3 PSIA) and naturally, boost (if applicable) is higher. For instance, a "2 BAR" manifold pressure = 14.7 PSIG = 29.4 PSIA.
And another example of Vacuum Vs. PSIA that might help explain

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I'm looking for answers - was it the MAP that you changed to make it work?

Do you have the Idle compensation enabled? It can and will cause the timing to hunt around at idle. Disable it and see if the idle stabilizes.

Hopefully by this weekend - finally a cold front in the forecast!

No idle timing control is enabled after reading about the problems it could potentially cause.
