Default 1st Gen Camaro suspension questions

Here's what I have:

'68 Camaro
3,600 lbs (without me in it)
ZZ502 crate - TH400 - 2500 stall
Ford 9" - 3.25 ratio
mono-leaf with Cal-Tracs
ET Streets - 28" tall

For the life of me I can't figure out why I can't get a good 60 foot time with this thing.

It runs consistent as hell 11.70's all day, but I know it's got more in it.

The best it's ever ran was 1.70 - 1.71 60 foot times.

The last time out it ran mid-low 1.8's and still ran 11.70's.

I'm sure I left out some info, but I'm not a suspension guy - I'm just looking for ideas of things to try. The engine makes nearly 600 ft/lbs, it should cut 1.50's with ease.

battery is in the trunk - and yes on the sfc's and poly mounts, drag shocks in the back........

I think the stall, 3.25's and 28" tall tires are hurting me the most......I'm just trying to make sense of it all........

thanks for the post!

Anything from the BMR guys? Your input would be much appreciated as well!

3.25's w/a 28'' tall tire is killer you gear ratio.I would try a 3500 stall and some 3.70's or a 26'' tall tire.

I hear ya - main reason for the 3.25's was because of keeping the rpm's down going down the road........

When the car just had regular 26" tall Cooper Cobras(and same gears) it still ran 11.90's with a worse 60' foot.....

it traps between 117 and 119, so the power is there for mid-11's.....

Even 3:50's would work good on both the track & street. You may even want to try a Hoosier Quick Time Pro 27'' tall tire. How about those Fiberglass monoleaf spring's.

All the weight on the nose isn't helping, Fiberglass hood/fenders/inner fenders/ aluminum radiator & heads, bigger stall, deeper gears, drag shocks, SFCs.

I had a 1980 Z-28 W/A 461 BBC,TH30,3500stall,4:10 and went 12.34 w/a 1.81 60ft then put Moroso trick spring's and Hoosier Quick Time Pro's and went 11.96 w/a 1.62 60ft so i would say weight transfer and better tires helps a lot.

Fiberglass hood - check!
aluminum radiator - check!
aluminum heads - check!
sub-frame cons - check!

I'm probably not going to get fiberglass fenders & fender inners -

bigger stall - need to get!
lower gears - need to get!

You've got me convinced!

Different stall, lower gears and a slightly shorter tire should help a ton!

You need travel in your front control arms, when you jack the car up make sure the control arms fall 5 inches. moroso trick springs and shocks up front, the big block is heavy and you need to transfer weight back. Lastly and most important ATI treemaster compition convertor, if you drive on the street a lot go 10 ". Should flash above 4500rpm, best convertor in the business. hoosier QTP's better yet slicks and roastem- stage quick before they cool - 1.5 sec 60 footers before you know it.

The caltracs work! - Rich
