Whistling under accel So I just picked the car up a couple days ago. 98z. Under acceleration it will make a whistle around 4000 rpm. I figured maybe the air box, swapped it w/ a ls1 motorsports lid, no fix. Figuring most likely its intake manifold gaskets, but had someone tell me its prob my cats? I work for GM and have never had a cat make a whistling noise. There are no vac leaks at idle anywhere that i can hear and it runs smooth at idle and doesn't throw any codes (other than egr) So yeah anyone ever had something similar?

mine is really loud actually, it seriously sounds like a big turbo supra, we get a good chuckle out of it, but its very annoying. i talked to a buddy of mine today as his 6spd 00 trans am does the same thing, a buddy has some stock cats laying around and he is gonna let me try. thanks for the feedback!

i think its a cat, but forgot that 98's are the bastard year and 99+ cats won't work well the drivers side will, passenger side not so much lol. headers and offroad y here we go, lol.

If it sounds like a broken pissed off super charger and fluxuates with the rpm's it's the belt tensioner, spray some WD on it while it's running and I'll be it goes away...Buy some new bearings at Autozone...they have a kit for us that replaces them with wheel bearings or something.
