What did you do to your Camaro today?

Took it to my mechanic to hunt down a slow leak... possibly rear main or oil pan? He recently added some of that fluorescent oil stuff so hopefully he can find exactly where it's coming from tomorrow.

Put LS7 lifters in her, put on new Ultra Pro Mag 1.6 ratio 7/16"stud rockers in too.
Potential bad news. After I put the intake on, torqued her down then went to put on the injectors, the retainer clip on cylinder #5 is not there. I sure hope it's not down in the intake valley waiting to be eaten up by the oil pump drive gear.

Well, I was about to but I thought "Let's take a tour over that head, between the valve springs with a magnet and hope we get lucky". The Camaro God smiled upon me as I heard a slight 'tick' as the clip found the magnet The clip had been laying around one of the head bolts with a slight pool of Brad Penn (dark green oil) obscuring it.
I've got her all buttoned up now and JUST got back from starting her with the new lifters and rocker arms. Sweet! Whereas before, with the CC OEM style hyd roller lifters, it clattered like a solid roller cam motor with too much lash(I adjusted the preload so many times trying to get rid of that) and ran rough at idle, now she sounds like a sewing machine and the idle is so smooth. Color me happy ! I won't be able to actually drive it till tomorrow though (BOOO!!!)

My F-Body 'Tinker of the day'!
Today, I installed the 35 amp fuse (package of 10 for $2.60 delivered, on freebay) in the spot where the breaker goes for the power defogger/seats. First time the defogger lasted the 10 minute timeout! Hit button again and it went for another 5 minutes. Shut car off, restarted, and done the sequence again for the initial 10 minutes, then 5, then a last and final 5 minutes to check the system throughout. The fuse was hardly warm! Beats the hell out of the breaker timing out, or the red hot 30 amp fuse solution like so many others have suggested. The .4 ohm grid can now handle the voltage without popping the breaker (still wished they made the breaker in a 35 amp model, oh well). Final note, the wiring throughout (size-wise) is large enough to handle the 35 amps, the fuse is still the weakest link!
By the time I get all the little quirky things fixed, I'll want an LS9 dropped in it!

Power steering fluid change
Today, I replaced approximately 85-90% (conservative) of the old nasty brown discolored power steering fluid. I sucked out a quantity, put in new, ran the motor a few (turning the steering wheel end-to-end twice), then repeated that process two more times (fluid becomming more and more cleaner) then sucked all I could from the power steering tank and replaced it with new. Thats what I did for my Camaro today!
Whats next, pray tell?

Finally Rear Window Tint Free!
Today, my Mrs and myself finished removing the bubbling rear window tint. Its been three years in the making! Had to take a large portion out when I bought it, it was such a job that I had not gotten to do the rest (you folks know the story, jobs not finished just done temporarily?). Well, this morning we finially finished it. All without cutting any of the defogger wires too! The problem I had was the stuff (glue?) they used to attach the tint. It badly bubbled the tinting making it hard as hell to see out of, all over the entire tint job. The contractor that installed it for the Highway Patrol (yeah its a B4C) must not have installed it properly. In taking the old stuff off, it was not letting the tint come off easily, nor was the 'glue' dissolving very well. I tried everything I could think of. Had an auto glass shop tell me to use rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, acetone, gasoline, xylene, then when all of these items failed miserably (over a two year period), I had a neighbor tell me to use ammonia. The hint that this was the correct thing to use, was while the mrs and I were scraping some off the other day, the windex seemed to take some of it off (I hadn't seen it, mrs was finishing up with the vacuuming of the tinting particles and then used windex to clean the glass of small debris). Anyway, when our neighbor told me to use ammonia, the mrs said it seemed like the windex took some off. So, I bought a gallon jug at a dollar store (lemon scented) and while finishing the minutia of particles we tried the ammonia. WOW finally the stuff just slowly came off. Now the entire rear window is tint and glue free! What a nice look it gives the car without that distracting nasty bubbly tint and glue all over it. While I was at it, I fixed the missaligned passenger side grid terminal (the hooking was bent flat so the tab was riding on top of that one side causing it to be lopsided). Opened up the hooking part so the tab would ride along the entire tab as its supposed to. I know being here in the southeast, it'll be hotter in the car but it sure opened up the rearward visability and makes the car look so much sharper. Pray tell, might I be interested in retinting the window again? Might have to think about that a lot. Last I heard, tinting is supposed to be applied with just a clean water mist and a squeegie to let it stick to the glass/grid. How about it folks, should I retint my girl, or not?

Finished the removal of the interior of our Father and son project, a 89 Camaro. Found rust in two areas. The spare tire well and the drivers floorboard. Nothing out of the ordinary. Bought 4th Gen seats front and rear for $125.00 for her today also. My son is actually enjoying working on his car I bought him.

Pulled out the TH350 w/2800 stall vigilante, put the T56 back in with new SPEC Stage 4 clutch setup. New job means long commutes so I need the mileage
The TH350 will be getting a trans brake, the Vigilante will go back to Precision industries for the free restall (3,800). I can swap the trannys back and forth for when I want to go racing (probably next Summer)
