Stock 95 LT1 Hood...
I hate how my engine bay gets EXTREMELY hot (gauge temp is norm) after a good drive, I was thinking about making the scoops functional, since they're just for looks...
Has anyone done this?
I would still keep the plastic piece, just drill out all the holes so I could get some airflow, is this really worth my time?
I won't drive the car in heavy rain btw, so I'm not too worried about that.
Also, I'm wondering if anyone has done anything with the headlight buckets, I haven't really found any covers that I'm crazy about, so I'm wondering if I should redo them to a glossy black, or body color possibly, thoughts?
AND, this weekend I will be doing the Berger panel, Flat black with body color (silver) CAMARO lettering.
Let me know what you guys think.
EDIT: Yes the car is dirty, and shitty pics from my iPhone.

There was a thread floating around where people cut out the scoops on the hood either appearance or lt1 bored i dont remember. I think they said their cars ran about 20 degrees cooler.

Here are results from this weekend;
Berger Panel;
Flat black with body color CAMARO letters, I filled in the letters with putty instead of tape, pretty easy.
What can I use to help protect it?
Won't clear coat make it shiny? I want to keep it FLAT black.
And the vent scoops, I did notice a good difference on the highway, possibly 15 degrees cooler, I kept the heat blanket but made cut outs under the vents, should I just remove the blanket?
I left the mounting brackets so I could try to find some better looking scoops to put in there.

Supposedly removing the vents lets a lot of water go straight into the electronics if you're driving in the rain.
I wouldn't remove the heat blanket, particularly since you say the car runs hot.

Yeah, I kept the brackets and stock inserts with no holes so I could put them back on when it rains or is getting washed.
Right now I'm just looking for a honeycomb insert...having a tough time lol.

I doubt anything for another car would fit unless you found something huge you could cut down. I have honeycomb vents on my GXP, and I can tell you right now... cleaning them is not a joy. Very difficult to clean.

Hey:
Before I changed hoods I removed them and it was posted on another site,with pics, I'll see if I can find them.
I took some heavy guage wire, put door screen with filter material from a hermetic filter, sprayed painted black, in the holes just like you have it.
It was always complemented on as a cool mod , looked real good, and made it cooler without all the dirt getting in the engine bay.
