I have an 01 SS that just turned 100K yesterday. A few wks ago I started hearing a whining under the hood when driving but it would subside when I hit the clutch and the brake. Today it is louder and does not quiet all the way down with the clutch and brake engaged. I replaced my surpentin belt about 3 mths ago so I cant imagine it being that again. Any other belts I need to look at. My live in mechanic (my ex hubby) is no longer available so I am on my own to find out what is going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Idler or tentioner pully, there is one of each. They are a common problem in these cars.

is it a manual trans? Sounds like maybe a throw out bearing

If it is the tensioner, you could think about the manual adjust. Comp Cams, and others sell them. They cured my belt squeeling problems. They are around 150.00, tho. If you need a part # I can find it for you.
