2000 z28 possible buy need opinions
I have found a 2000 pewter z28 with auto transmission and 106k miles.
I haven't driven the car yet but it looks to be in great shape and garage kept. It's a hard top with cloth seats. They have it listed for $8990. If the car checks out good what should I offer? I was looking at a 98 trans am but decided to look elsewhere. This z28 Is in alot better shape.
So, what should I offer? It was a trade in so I know the dealer probably ripped the seller off. Retail is around $7500 I think and trade in is $4200 to $4500 according to KBB.
Thanks
CC

Went and drove the car. It's flawless and was obviously well taken care of. Everything works, tires look like they will need to be replaced soon but everything else worked and no oil pressure issue.

This is probably a classic case of a dealer lowballing the car at trade-in (they'll say it's an old car, high mileage, bad fuel economy) and then jacking the price up when they go to sell it (rare, future classic, fun sporty car).
They'll need to come down. I probably wouldn't spend more than the $7,500 that it retails at. I would make them an offer of $6,500 or $7k at most.
Tires for these cars can be expensive. Make that an issue when you are negotiating.

HELLLLLLL NOOO. Keep watching the car, for another week or 2. More than 2 weeks. Then call them again and say, Will you take 6500 now? and keep asking every 2 weeks. Here's why, Dealers have to pay each month unless they wanna keep there car on the lot they have to pay Per car Unless the dealer that owns the car owns the whole lot, and If dealer has a car in inventory to long, bad things happen. Try to find some bad things about the car, like there is a scratch here and there, this window regulator is gona go out in a little. Hood/trunk springs are weak, Gather all bad things about it, and tell them, eventually they will get sick of you and sell you the dang car for a good price.

I bought my car on 12/18/09 for 8,440 out the door from a dealer (about 7,100 +TT&T). Alot of the mods in my sig were done. The car had 67,500 miles on it. It is a HT auto with leather and was perfect on the inside. Had a small amount if clear coat peel on the LH fender, and that was it car was perfect other wise.
You should be able to get a better deal from them or find another one somewhere else.
