Default Daytime running lights/auto on headlights.....want them off

Did a search and found no results for this. I have a 2001 Z28, that still has the DRL and auto on headlights enabled. I want to have control over when my headlights come on, I have to use the car after dark many times and the auto on feature is nice except when I have to go through the gates of military installations and can't turn them off, the guards aren't really appreciative of that feature. I've heard that there is a resistor or relay I can unplug behind the stereo, but not much more than that.

Can you help me out?

Here you go. http://xse.com/leres/ss/drl.html
And as I stated in a thread in the electronics section, I just pulled the C2 connector from behind the radio to disable the DRL and auto headlights, but the only downside is that when you pull the hand brake the dash light won't light up, or if you have an M6 the hatch release button won't work.

you can also jumper the wires together at the light sensor on the dash. thats how it was done in both wrecked cars i have bought.

Thanks for the link and advice. I'll try to jumper the sensor first, then if that doesn't work unplug the C2 connector.

In my 98' this only disables the headlights but you still have the turn signals on as running lights any time the parking brake is disengaged.

No As posted by cfallsguy, you can use the info in that link to eliminate the running lamps and auto headlights.

Thing is, I like having the auto headlight feature, but can't stand my DRLs... I spent some time today looking at the diagrams and was thinking there would just be a wire or something that I could bypass. Too bad that the "if lights off then DRL on" switch is actually part of the circuit board. I'm sure there is a way to trick the relays into thinking that the headlamps are always on so that the DRLs would be disabled (or just blocking the daytime on output for the DRLs), but the auto-headlamp would still work.
If I figure anything out I'll take pics and let you know. But since I'm too scared to jack it up I prolly won't figure it out...

^^Great write up for those that want to disable both the DRL and auto headlights.

I am glad in the later generations of GM cars there is just a simple relay under the hood to disable DRL and a switch for auto headlights.
