Did a little more working on the car yesterday. Looked over and cleaned the MAF and throttle body and noticed a couple things
1. the maf was REALLY scuffed and rough on the top and bottom, almost like someone tried to hand port it (very poorly) and then just quit.
2. the throttle plate was absolutely caked in grime/oil. It was absolutely nasty.

Looks like there are a lot more little issues to be fixed.

Going to be changing out gaskets, installing the electronics to hook up the th400 to the electric speedo and checking the valve train thursday/friday.
Im starting to wonder if a lifter is bad, got some ticking coming from the engine and the car shakes something fierce, not to mention a bad vribration while cruiding at certain rpms :/

The more i read about this cam(well the MS3 which is VERY similar) most people seem to think that it is too much for a stock cube 346? Should i go with something smaller, in the 228-232 range and just do a heads and matching cam combo?

Suggestions as to what combo? I notice a lot of people seem to like TSP's combos that they offer.

Open to all sugestions!

I have a buddy that is running a ms3 with 2.5 5.3 heads on stock cubes and makes like 430ish through a 4k converter and 3.42 gears. on his previous T/A he was running the same thing but 2.5 243 heads but never got numbers on it. I would run that cam with 2.5 heads from tsp, tune it, and maybe put a dry shot on it. he was also spinning to 7200 rpms pulling all the way there.

as for lifters, hell just toss some ls7's in there when you do your heads

Well thats good to hear. I emailed TSP yesterday asking them on their opinion as far as what heads would go well with my current cam/set up.
They suggested these:
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-4-prc-s...ted-heads.aspx
and
http://www.texas-speed.com/p-3515-pr...ral-heads.aspx

Im still not sure though :/ decisions, decisions lol

Also, i did a little more research on something that was bugging me. When cleaning out the throttle body/maf i noticed that the throttle body had a hole drilled in it?!

The majority from what ive read on this seems to think that this is something that tuners who are slightly incompetant do and is in no way necessary on a car modified like mine. Maybe this is why im having the occasional dying issue? Im not sure, id like to put a stock, not drilled throttle body on temporarily and see what happens.

This is the "slight" oil leak..... and the reason the motor and trans was pulled.

Starting the tear down

Motor and trans are out!

Not all was bad, found out i have some decent roller rockers and dual valve springs

This is the vac hose that was cut/tore up. replaced this as well

So a review of what happened this weekend.
  • Replaced gaskets on the oil pan, front timing cover, rear main seal and cover, valve covers.
  • Installed Electronic speedo sensor kit for TH400
  • Replaced motor mounts with poly mounts
  • Replaced plug wires with accels
  • Replaced maf
  • Replaced 2 missing trans mount bolts
  • Replaced destroyed trans vac hose

Thats all i can think of. It seems like there was a couple other things, but im sure ill think of them later.

The car already drives a hundred times better than it did prior to this weekend.

well damn didn't see that coming... I figured you would just pull the motor not the whole k-member and everything haha. but hell yea, at least you got it all straightened out.

how long did it take to do all that?

The car looks good by the way

Yea, i had to do some things on the trans, so we figured it would be easiest to just drop it all out the bottom.
We worked on it thursday, friday and part of the day saturday. We were finished with everything but bleeding the brakes saturday, but we both had to leave early so we had to finish that up sunday.

Thanks, it still have some decent paint imperfections, and the window on the passenger side is non functional. Its just being propped up now till i get it fixed.

So next on the list is the window/window motor, get the front bumper repainted, sub frame connectors and LCA's.
And somewhere in there figure out what i want to do with the sound system.

Hell yea that's not bad at all.

And sounds like a good plan, I would look into phb, ta, and a drag bar at the same time as the sfc's and lcas but that's just me

Ill look into that. Im not sure how an aftermarket torque arm will work with my TSP true duals and turbo 400, but im sure something would or could be made to work.
