Default [PIC HEAVY] From LS1 to LS3: My Build Thread

Hey guys.

So I've come a long way with my car and I have only had it for almost 2 years this coming July. A lot of friends have helped me get to my goals and I couldn't thank them enough or have done it without them. Enjoy the thread, it will never be finished lol.

To start off, I bought this 01' z28 with 40k miles for 12 pretty pennies in July of 2012. Had one previous owner (older guy).

Here she is bone stock [except for borla exhaust] with that ugly RS body kit

Untouched LS1

Next mod was a SLP Cold air induction intake which I bought with a K&N filter and SLP Lid
Installed Air duct

Finished engine bay after SLP lid install

Started getting bored of how slow the car was, so decided to buy a set of Kooks 1 3/4" stainless headers with an Off Road 3" Y pipe!
Headers installed

Kooks ORY Pipe

Here's a before and after headers&ory install video!

Doing a little racing in Mexico.

Decided to do a cam swap. Went with a 224/228 @ 112 comp cam

Old cam and new cam! Car has 62k miles on it by now from driving to and from college & work.

On the dyno once again at RPM for the cam tuning! Ended up with 390hp, cam only!

After a few months of having the cam, the LS1 decided it had had enough and threw two rods and broke the oil windage. Sad day.

For a second, I thought about selling the car. But after a few conversations, I decided to step it up to the next level.

Getting towed to Powerhaus Performance

LS3 being set up! Came with a GM Hot Cam from the factory!

All bolted in!

And a dyno pull! Put out 427hp/427tq on a loaded Mustang Dyno!

what all did you have to move, change or swap to make the LS3 work in the Camaro. I have thought about this swap should the day come when I need a new engine. I would like to keep as many of the stock LS1 parts as I can to cut down on cost

Nice build so far! I think the car would look great with the whistler headlight mod and some clear or smoked corner lenses. Those are very cheap ways to make your front end look much better in my opinion, especially if you do the headlights yourself.
