Default Widest tires I can go stock?

I have a 2002 camaro ss slp & I was wondering what is the widest tire size I can go on the back? I have the stock 10 spoke wheels I have 275/40zr17 98y sumitomo htr II, I wanna know what's the widest tire size I can go for more traction & best perfomance tires for a reasonable price help me out here. It's almost impossible to launch from a dig & not spin all of 1st and most of 2nd I needa more traction

If you want better traction you need a drag radial. 275 is about the widest that you wanna go on a 9" rim

So basically I'm stuck at 275 until I get different rims? So then I can put drag radials on?

thanks man do you know if the stock CME exhaust would fit with Texas speed headers & catless y pipe? I'm getting them next month & was wondering if I'd have any issues installing them both

Have nitto 555R drag radials outback, traction is good performance driving they've held and handled well. Wear is a better than some others. I recommend.I have them in 275/40/17

No, 285/40/17 will fit the stock 17x9" wheel without issue, but there aren't many tire options in this size.

I bought my car with ten spokes and 285/40/17
Fitment is really good. Makes it look wider. Probably no effect better than a 275 other than stance

Default CME & Tires....

My car also has the Center Mount Exhaust. I installed Kooks Long Tube Headers with the Kooks Catt'd Y-Pipe. To my knowledge, Kooks Y-Pipe is very similar to TSP's Y-Pipe. I maintained my factory exhaust and everything hooked together perfectly. I couldn't be happier with it!!

For tires, I also have the 10-Spoke wheels. I originally had the Nitto 555 tires and traction was a major issue. I sold them to a good friend of mine and went with the NT05R's out back and NT05's up front. I maintained the Factory size, 275's, only because there are not a lot of options for 285's....

In all honesty, tires are important, but rear suspension is also important. Throw on a set of Aftermarket Springs/Shocks, Lower Control Arms, and LCA Relocation Brackets and that will help with your traction as well!!
