Default LS-1 OR LT-1 to keep?

Hey guys I have been thinking of doing some intermediate engine work to my LT-1, then I decided That I shouldn't because my car is an A4 4L60E and I really want a stick so I was looking in to getting a 94-95 C4 vette. I called a guy I know at "exstreme performance" and he said if I was going to change cars I should get a LS-1 for sure. So now Im trying to deside between selling my LT-1 and getting a 98-02 Z28 or just keeping mine. Although I want a stick so I guess the question is should I do a tranny swap in my LT-1 or buy a LS-1 6-speed? So whats better LT-1 or LS-1?

The LT1 versus LS1 conundrum has been debated ad nauseum here. Put in some searches and you will probably get more posts than you can bear to read.

As far as M6 versus A4 it depends greatly on YOU. How are you going to use the car? What do you like?

Its a everyday driver for awhile but Ill be building it up and racing about every weekend. so...? The guy at the shop told me that LS-1s are 100 years ahead of LT-1s and that the parts are alittle higher for LS-1 but the labor is less so it equals out to about the same cost for parts. He said that I would have to do like twice as much stuff to my LT-1 and if I did the same things to the LS-1 I would get like twice the power. Is this true?

What type of racing will you be doing? Bracket = automatic hands down.

However if you are not bracket racing, I find M6 cars to be more fun as daily drivers.

Yes, the LS1 is part of the GEN III engine family and is a generation ahead of the LT1. There are several notable improvements that you will discover when you study up on them.

He is correct. An LS1 car comes quicker stock and the LS1 motor responds with greater results to (proper) mods than an LT1 car.

Embarrassing case in point: My '94 ran a 14.14 first trip out to the track. For about a year and a half I did bolt on after bolt on and then ran a 13.22. I said screw this and got into the motor after that. Well, my wife's '00 B4C with the same A4 trans and same 3.23 gears ran a 13.25 with just a SLP air lid and me cutting off the excess EGR tube. And... the damn thing has 101K miles on it!

Holy cow!

Some bolt-on mods on the LT1 will get you in the neighborhood of a stock LS1. As for the T56 tranny , the LT1 unit is actually a better built , more durable unit of the 2. The biggest drawback of the LT1 is the Optispark . It is also heavier due to fact it is a cast iron block and the LS1 is an aluminium block. The LS1 also is capable of higher revs. You've got a tough decision to make.

I cant decide I mean my LT-1 Z28 is in outstanding shape, I wouldn't be thinking of sale'n it if I didn't want a stick so bad. Then when the guy from exstreme totally talked up how good the LS-1 is I have been thinking about sale'n my LT-1. I was just going to go with a tranny swap but then he said I should just go with a different car...I can get a LS-1 for about 2g's more than I would be saling my LT-1 for. What do you think I should do? If I should sale it what should I sale it for? It seriously is the fastest stock LT-1 I know of here in Oklahoma and the best looking and cleanest too. It has all the stuff in my signature and 142,802 miles and runs great the fastest stock LT-1 motor I know of. No optispark problems either. It was serviced about a year ago before I got it. I bought it from my youth pastor in Tucson Arizona.

For 2gs , you probably couldn't get the swap and all the mods done so go for the LS1!

yeah I have found a few LS-1s for 8000-10000. I plan on saling mine for 7000. Thats if I keep the system and wheels on it when I sale it. I could always keep them and put them on the LS-1.

I say LS1 six speed if you are wanting a stick.
