Little surprises everywhere. 98 Z28
So I just joined this forum after buying my 1998 Camaro Z28.
Right off the bat I noticed it had flowmaster exhaust. Kinda hard to miss that exhaust note. I went ahead and painted the calipers Silver. I think they look nice.
Pop the hood and guess what. K&N KNIP. Also note the Taylor wires I just installed along with the NGK 55 plugs I did yesterday. Oh and EG Tranny mount not pictured.
BTW Energy suspensions Tranny mount was easy to do. Maybe 5 minutes. Helped with my wheel hop even though my old mount was fine looking. I will be doing the EG Torque arm mount today and rolling my rear fenders (looking into the future ).
I bought this car from a dealer so I really don't know what's been done to it. Hence the title of the thread.
So I was on the highway in 6th when I notice the shift rod was smooth as **** feeling.
Hmmmn let's pull down the boot and take a look.
Not sure what ya'll think of the shifter, but I think it's a tad notchy. Looks good though.
So here I guess is my ?..... I noticed my coolant temps never get over maybe 170, so I assume 160F thermastat is in there. Also the fans aren't supposed to kick in till like 210F I believe, yet mine kick in about 170-180F. Also my car is exactly 5mph off.....if I'm doing 55mph in really doing 60mph. And I have stock tire size. DO you think my car has been tuned? That is the only thing I can think of that would allow for the fans to be on so early.
Also my harmonic balancer (or is it crank pulley) doesn't look to smooth running...
Is it worth replacing with a underdrive setup? If so which one would you recommend....and of course I want it to be from a sponsor

put an underdrive pulley on it.
it sounds like you may have aftermarket gears for your mph being off. but if it had a tune, seems like they woulda calibrated for the gears. (unless they did gear swap after tune)
im stumped

Also note the Tranny was recently rebuilt (reverse was slipping or something). Maybe there is something there. I am going into town I will right down my RPM and MPH at intervals to see if it's maybe the gearing.

Not a short shifter like -that- though. Mine came with teh Hurst short throw setup and I put the Hurst short stick on it. Makes it hella tighter, especially after seeing how sloppy the stock shifter rod was.

i thought all m6's had hurst, and the short throw was a SLP only option? oh ya, read up some on the flowmaster exhaust, if you are trying to get performance out of the car that might not be you're best choice, they have a pretty bad rep. on ls1's.

I agree, a little goes along way.....if you think you've overdone it...let it drain for a day.
