Default 1997 V6 Camaro with (factory?) supercharger

Ok, friend of a friend, supposedly has a "rare" factory supercharged 1997 V6 Camaro. My first response to this was that it was total B.S. because they never made this option. But, before I call him out on it, I would like to double-check here. Anyone know any special editions like this? Maybe even a dealer installed option? Or a aftermarket car, like the Macho Trans Am?

Your friend is hittin the pipe too hard. There was no SC option for the Camaro at any time in production.

It was not done at the factory... however the 3.8L engine had a vast amount of supercharger bolt on components which lends itself to easily have one put on.

Your friend has probably been fooled into thinking that when he bought his Camaro.

So what happened? I'm guessing it wasn't supercharged? I was thumbing through through the service manual on a 4th gen f-body 2002 and notice it talked about supercharger installation and removal. This is all I found on the internet though

There are many supercharged 3800 vehicles like GTP's and ssei's..
So unless he somehow swapped the engine out..no, theres no factory supercharged camaro.

A vortech supercharger was a dealer add-on available kit for the LT1 from GM Performance Parts if I remember correctly, but it wasn't a factory option at all. I don't think GM offered anything for the V6 at any point. The only thing for the V6 cars I remember through GM Performance Parts was a hurst 5 speed shifter with white ball on the top.
