Default Should I Buy Another F-Body?

Well I recently sold my 93 Z28 Camaro to find something with lower miles, better gas mileage, and I really wanted a newer car. I've always been a Camaro fan, since the first time I sat in an 87 IROC-Z when I was 5 years old, so it was hard to sell my baby. I'm going to be going to school in Houston, TX which is about 650 miles from my hometown.

So I figured I would buy something more economical, but I won't settle for just another Honda. So I've been looking at Stratus R/T's, Monte Carlo SS's, Integras, Eclipses etc. But after all my research it doesn't seem like I'm going to save much money buying one... espically when I can get an 01 Stratus R/T with 73k on it for 9k, or a 98 Z28 with 63k on it completly optioned. I woud save a bit on the gas part, Stratus R/T's should get 20-25 in the city, when the Camaro will probably average 15-18... but on the highway there isn't much difference. And the insurance rates aren't going to matter much considering the primary on the car will be my Grandpa to save money. Plus I'm afraid of buying a V6 car with 70k+ Miles and running into all kinds of problems, although my 93 Z28 had some problems, it was mainly nickels and dimes besides the typical Optispark.

I've been out of a car for about a month now, so figured I would post for some advice, anything is welcome... The selection around here sucks, but there are a few F-Bodys running around... there isn't much for V6 cars.

1998 Camaro Z28 - Black, M6, T-Tops, Leather, Sport Appearance Package, 63,500 miles. - $9000

VS.

2001 Stratus R/T - Silver, Auto, Sunroof, Leather, 73,250 Miles - $9000

I really don't see how it's a hard choice. Having already had a V8 Camaro, you will miss the performance if you don't get another one, plus, isn't the stratus R/T a V6 front driver? Just stay out of the gas in the city and you can get 17-18mpg, I did it once. Just once as I have a lead foot, but I did discipline myself long enough to get that good of mileage for a tank. So go ahead and buy the better car, just eat out at fast food joints less or drink a little less. Good for your health, and more fun, those two don't go together very often.

You're asking the wrong forum for advice. Hell yes get the Camaro. Black? M6? T-tops? This MUST be a trick question!

Yeah I figured this was the response I was gonna get, I'm taking some **** from my family from selling a Camaro to buy another Camaro... but hey I guess I'm moving up from an LT1 to an LS1. I'm hoping to go look at the car on Tuesday.

You will get noticeably better gas mileage out of an M6 LS1 than an A4 LT1. Tell that to your family.

Definately go with another F-body. I grew up on them also and have owned many and own two now. My car is almost 500 crank HP, m6 and gets 28 miles per gallon at 80 mph. Go for it.

you can see my mods on my car in my sig. i drive 25 miles to work five days a week and none of it is on the highway. i get an easly 18 miles to the gallon and one time got 20. if your going to get a car with good gas milege, then stick with the camaro and stay off the gas. thier not as bad as people say they are. just because a car has a v8 doesnt mean it sucks on gas milege.

Thanks for the responses guys, my M6 Z got sold, but when I looked last night another one was on... and looks to be in better condition, it's 500 more but I got approval from the family so I'm gonna go test drive in Wednesday or Thursday... can't wait to be behind the wheel of another F-Body... wish I could have gotten an M6 though, better gas mileage and more fun... but maybe I'm better off with the auto considering I will be living in a much bigger city than I'm used too, plus I will sell the car once I'm out of college and get a 09 SS or Z, M6 :-). Will get some pics up if I get the car.

Sounds great. Don't count the A4 out on the fun factor. It's just a higher stall torque converter away from being plenty of fun.

Ask on an LS1 site expect a bit of bias

I don't really think unbiasedly its a hard pick though.

Camaro FTW.

Picking up tomorrow at 5-6 PM. I'm paying $8750 and apparently the EGR needs a new valve, and the bushings will need replaced in the next 2-3k... but I still think it's a pretty good deal.
