If somebody GAVE me a z06 cam for free I wouldn't go through the trouble of installing it. What a waste of time. You'll gain maybe 25 hp after a dyno tune.
Buy a used cam on this site for $200. Something in the 230-237 duration range. Then get some Comp 918 springs for $160 new along with some pushrods and gaskets... then you've got something worth the effort. ~Joshua

Have you considered the CheatR cam from Thunder Racing? I was looking at an LS6 camshaft (kinda wanted "stealthy" cam, but streetable) specs are something like 210/214? Stock LS1 cam is 204/210 i think... CheatR Cam is 214/232 or thereabouts. My exact grind is in my sig, and you can get a whole kit (springs, pushrods, cam) for a good deal. Streetability is great, and only the trained ear can tell i have a cam. Im holding off on a tune until i get my LTs and a LS6 mani, but with just the cam im not complaining about the power!!
Moral of the story: look around, LS6 cam is kinda a half-step if you're doing a cam... but then again others would say that about my CheatR
.
EDIT: oh, and while you're there, get a pulley too if you dont already have one...it helps

Think of it this way the LS6 cam is a better LS1 cam the CheaTR is a better LS6

CheaTR is also quite close to a blower grind cam so it'll work wonders in F/I setups.
