Default 2002 ZL-1 Camaro - Barret-Jackson

HI Folks
I was watching Barret-Jackson auction on Speed last night and there was a 2002 Camaro ZL-1 (1 of 69) being sold. The Car went for $100K!! The car was build with C5R 427 engine plus other option by GM. First, I did not know about the ZL-1 or maybe I heard about it in the past and forgot -But what a car. I thought I would share that you. I think this is the right place to post this.
thanks
Bill

Yup those ZL-1 cars are awesome. Do you kno they also made three phases of them. phase three had the all alum. 427 s/b, something crazy like 600+hp. And I saw specs on phase three cars also top speed of 230+mph and a sick 0-60mph something like 2.7-2.9secs, and consistent 10.4's 1/4 mile Phase three was sick at a 94 grand price. I know a guy who buys wrecked 4th gen's. He has a black and red zl1 he bought it as a phase 2 car for a little over 60k then later bought the phase 3 package for it.

If it sold for 81k it def. was not a phase 3, had to be phase 2, I dont even really see a phase 3 sellin for as cheap as 100k i have not seen them no cheaper then 125k except from the dealer

Hi Folks
I believe you are correct but this is how it is listed on Barret-Jackson's site 85 1970 DODGE SUPER BEE 2 DOOR HARDTOP $77290.00
86 2002 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 COUPE $100760.00
I thought something might have happened after the car being auctioned. The car under it has the same price - maybe a typo.
thanks
Bill

Goodness, I'd never pay that much for any camaro ever....

Wild specs but I rather get a truck kit car bike and downpayment on my house.

I belive 81K would have been the sale price, then the 100K you showed is the total price after commissions and fees

Many of the phase 3s with the little extras were over 100 new... you know those cars are only worth more now then they were new.

They mentioned it was a 400hp 427? I thought the 427's were stronger than that.

Phase 1- ls6 400hp other options are available also, headers, etc.

Phase 2- 427 I have seen anywhere from 450-500 hp ????

Phase 3- 427 C5-R block 600+hp... They have been dynoed as high as 702hp at the wheels!!! WOW!!!

All cars were B4C police cars when started.

You could get any phase in 8 factory colors, or any color a customer would want it painted. 55 of the 69 were painted one of the factory 8 colors.

The ZL-1 sold at Barret-Jackson was a phase 1 with the ls6.

The white ZL1 was a plain Jane Phase I and went for $80K which means the buyer paid $88K. That's big money for a phase I and especially one that has been hacked a little. Notice the ZL1 on the roof pillar. Also remember that car sold new just a few years ago for $52 - $55K.

Yes pretty much they paid 80k for an ls6 that offers 400hp and some badges and a sweet *** tail light panel. LOL, I would love to own but def. would never think of paying 88k for a phase l. Unless maybe it came with my options but then it wouldnt be a phase l and since they have been gone pretty much since word got out I wont have one.

SLP - I think the psychology behind the increase in value of the GMMG series of cars is a little more that just some shop sticking an LS6 in a camaro. Of course there is a lot more to a ZL1 than that, but more importantly people are looking at the incredible appeal and increasing prices of resto-mods. Ands RM's are nothing more that nostalgia cars w/o the POS drive-train that came in them. GMMG cars just take the RM concept one step further.

Also collectors are watching Yenko's, etc. AND the damn clones that are going for more than a new Z06!! Collectors also realize that Yenko's, etc. were not GM authorized cars. All GMMG cars (ZL1, DH, Anniversary) have GM's stamp of approval. GM even forced certain restraints on these cars and to get GM's approval Matt had to agree. This and the very small number of GMMG cars will add value to these cars in the long run. If not the owners will still enjoy their toys!
