If you were to put a stock Z-28 next to a stock SS, and ask some random person that has no knowledge of either which one is faster, they will say, "well, the SS looks faster"; Just like my friends in highschool once tried to tell me an SS would kick my *** in a race because it had a RA hood. After I proved them wrong by pulling on one in Bowling Green during the reunion (when I just had LM mod) they finally shut up. And then they started bugging me about freakin 04 cobras; Highschool for ya.....
The only diffrence like most people have said is the exhaust. I just don't understand why GM did this. If your going to have the same motor in the SS thats in the Z-28, then tune it up to 345 like they did the corvette, and put a cam or something in the standard vette. Then me and everyone else will begin to understand why they marked the SS up so much more than the Z-28 price wise.

Yeah, guys I went to highschool with were dumbasses like that too. They thought foxbody LX's(with a 5.0) were slower than GT's lol. And that Mach 1's could not beat 99/01 Cobras. And as far as I know weren't Vette ratings just as much BS, I think that they make the same power as the Fbods. They are faster from what I understand, just cuz of the weight/aero difference. I am talking about regular C5's of course and not Z06's.

Check the dyno section on here or a corvette site and you will see that the ls1 vettes (non-z06) did put down the same if not a little less than f-bodies again do to the irs as lastlt1 said.

my o2 SS made 302 rwh stock.the hood and exhaust give it more hp.do the free mods and a cat back exhaust and they will be equal for alot cheaper price.

Sorry dude, but the hood does not add any HP. The ram air effect only comes into effect at higher speeds with air rushing into the airbox. So on a dyno it comes out to be no difference. The only advantage I can see is if you do like 65+ roll or something, and then the SS might have a SLIGHT edge. As for the exhaust, it might be a little less restrictive, but at most yields 5hp over a Z, which is in the margin of error for a dyno.

^^ i run with a stock catback too on my SS. i usually run with cutouts open, but on the dyno through my stock catback(cutouts closed) i put 352/360 down. not bad especially when most guys run aftermarket catbacks to get same results. stock catback flows pretty good in my opinion

mine made 302/318 on a dynojet also.you know you add 20% to a4s and that gives you engine hp. which means are cars were more like 361hp than 325hp the factory rated them.that basically means we got the 02 c5 corvette motor.

Then there is something wrong with the dyno or the car (unless we're talkin Mustang Dyno), dynoing that low puts you with in 15-25 HP of an LT1 (thats just for comparison purposes!) You shouldn't dyno lower than say 285.
