no difference in motor or anything...just mainly appearance. Hood, Spoiler, Suspension.

SS is WAY faster... They are basically the same except SS has the appearance package (ss hood, spoiler) better flowing exhaust and I believe the bilstein suspension (as an option). Performance wise they are the same.

What they said. I once thought that SS cars were the ****, and made the fatal mistake of underestimating Z28's. But I am much smarter now, as most will tell you, there is virtually no difference between any of the Fbody's. I prefer the SS tho, solely because of looks

Just to justify the higher price tag mostly. They had some different things such as intake/exhaust, but they add no more power really. All LS1 powered cars should produce around 350 flywheel, and 300 rear wheel.

Only performance difference between the SS and the Z28 was a muffler

No biggie, now you know. Although it is natural for people to assume its faster but again as someone else said it was a marketing tool to charge more for the SS version, although I think SS's are worth every penny as I had a z28 and they just look plain when compared to an ss.

Yes, they will. Now a 01-02 f-body will USUALLY make more hp on a dyno then 98-00 f-body. But thats not even always the case.

Like punkNpony said, yes. The higher HP rating was b.s., don't worry about not knowin it man, I didn't either until my Lightning got rolled on by a lid/exhaust Z28 from 40 roll by about 3-4 cars. I learned from that guy, as well as searching on this site, that all LS1 cars are more or less equal in the power making dept. GM obviously did a good job of marketing the power difference tho, I still have a hard time getting people to believe that SS's aren't faster

Z28 are faster for the fact that they weight less than a ss.

The SS got slightly bigger anti-roll bars too. The 17" vs. 16" wheels and wider tires are probably the biggest difference performance wise though. I think a stripper Z/28 is actually the fastest because of the weight advantage.

Maybe on a mustang dyno but I have yet to see a stock ls1 dyno under 290 rwhp. My 98 z28 with 45K miles on it dynoed 300 rwhp bone stock last summer so I would say the norm on a dyno jet is around 300 rwhp.

Some '02 SS's came with the "Blackwing" lid option, along with the Firehawks.

Thats why I typed "around" 300, I have seen them dyno 290, but I have also seen them dyno 315. It doesn't really matter anyway, 10hp is not enough to determine the outcome of a race.

i like the Z better. everyone think it's the underdog but it's just as much a heavy hitter as the SS. It doesn't get better when someone says "Oh it's just a Z". lol.
