275-285rw hp is about right for a 98-00 z28,they say they make 305hp at the crank but that would make it 330hp a4&m6 at the crank.the lt1s make 275&285hp at crank but that is gm #s.

z28 and ss both have ls1 engines. SS package included a ram air hood and spolier, usually accompanied by bilstein suspention, free slowing exhaust, wheels, etc.

to recap what someone said on the previouse page, i remeber someone posting an article out of a magazine that was a couple years old, actually i think it featured an 01 WS6 and an 01 C5, both on a Dyno, and the WS6 was actually putting down 1 or 2 more than the C5, both over 300 though. They were both bone stock and i know the ram air hood had noting to do with it, im sure it was the IRS in the vette. Dont quote me on the years of the cars cause its been awhile since ive seen the articles, but i am sure it was a TA and a C5.

wouldnt the fiberglass SS hood be lighter than the aluminum z28 hood, hence making it slightly faster in the 1/4? obviously that difference is minimal, and that woldnt effect teh dyno results.

after tomorrow ill have dyno results from my 01 z28 with magnaflow catback and GMS air lid (and ill compare that to runs with my K&N kit).

IMHO the SS looks better than the Z28, and i'm a Z28 owner. As far as power goes it's going to come down to production variances for similiarly equipped cars. LS1s seemed to vary in rwhp. I had a 02 Z28 M6 that put down 294/316 and a 02 Z28 A4 that put down 342/343 with the same mods on the same dyno. A stripper 1SC Z28 should have a slight advantage for drag racing.

The little bit of weight saved wouldnt make that big of a difference I wouldnt think. Its not enough to really matter. As people have said, the Z28 and SS should dyno very similar, as well as run similar times in the 1/4.

Some SS cars were actually rated at 345 from the factory. My 02 SS came with the SLP Blackwing airlid and CME exhaust from the factory. The factory specs were 345 HP 350 Tq. So some cars did actually have the same specs as the C5.

The LT1 was also underrated, the LT1 Vette had 300hp.
Combine that with the faulty and choked out intake, exhaust manifold and exhaust, and you have more than meets the eye.
Plenty of LT1 guys on here with an intake and full exhaust put down numbers around and above 285-300hp, sometimes more.

The SS is just a Z28 with a hood scoop, nicer rims, spoiler, a little better suspension parts, and an EXTENSION ON YOU ******! Now days, any chevy can be an SS, only a Camaro can be a Z28.

LS1 Fbodies are severely under-rated. Like previously stated, they have the same output as the Vettes. This is the same whether its a Z28, SS, Formula, Trans Am, WS6, Firehawk. This is an interesting article from a Mustang magazine of all places lol. They dyno'd an SS at 321whp. For reference, I dyno'd at 315whp in my Z28.

Wow......I didn't think it mattered that much. I like and respect both names. Don't be the one that thinks a z28 will fall behind you at the light........

Just as an example: Although it's no longer "stock", when I first got it my (at the time) stock 02 Z28 with just over 30K on it it put down 306rwhp/328rwt on the dyno. SS is faster? Well I'll continue to let the Mustang guys believe that if they want.
