i had a 94 3.4 5 speed and beat the hell out of it till i sold it at 140 no problems at all

My 95 camaro had a 3.4. I thought it was very reliable. Just some general Maintenance. I did have to change the A/C pump at ~149000 miles, and the original clutch was just changed at 157,000 miles. It gets over 26mpg.

I would personally opt for a 3800 but the 3.4 is the same architecture as a 2.8L, 3.1L etc. Its a proven GM Engine that has been around since the 1980's and is still in use today in the 3500 and 3900 forms!! Go for it, that is if you want a V6
