The 3.4 litre twin dual over head cam, used up until 97 in GMs lineup... Found in Z-34 Lumina, Z-34 Monte, Grand Prix GTP before forced induction and the invent of the new series II 3800... The motor was a nightmare of problems, commonly breaking timing belts, and just unrealiable all around. They dumped it as soon as they had a viable option to replace it with... The very stable SII3800... So, I'd probably shop around before committing to some definate headaches that you will get out of that motor.

the 3.4 engines in the camaros arent dohc they are pushrod engines. i have driven my 95 for 10 years now and have had no problems with it. it gets great mpg but it is not a very powerful engine. having said that, they are very economical and reliable imho

Oops... Sorry... Guess I fed you bad information... Judging by the year base I had made an assumption without thinking... Of course it couldnt be the Dohc 3.4 ... it didnt mate to a RWD bellhousing... common sence should have told me that...

I had a 94 3.4 liter Camaro 5 speed before my Trans Am. Not a single problem. Replaced battery once and alternator once. Basic maintenance. I drove it for 8 years and put 78K miles (34K to 112K) on it before I traded it in on my TA. They only gave me 1200 for a trade in, but I wish I would have kept it for a beater. That car was resilient for sure.

They used the 3.4 from 93 through the first half of 95 and then switched to the 3.8 for the last half of 95 to 02. For being a v6 those are both good engines and they will both hit around 120 mph. Not bad for a v6.

Recently helped my youngest rebuild her 3.4L V6 camaro (1994/auto). Not a complicated engine, but not very powerful either. They seem to be pretty reliable, the only common issue I now about is the original LIM gaskets are weak. Replace them with the Fel-Pro's and you are done.

There is nothing wrong with the Vin X 3.4 DOHC, change the timing belt when you are supposed to. Mine lasted 140,000 miles before I sold it. (1995 GTP). The 3.4 in the f-bods were tough as well.

They are ok semi reliable cars which are cheap and get the job done.
I would aim for one with an ecotec. The quad4s arent worth the trouble they bring. The old 2.2L OHV u can get really respectable gas milage out of even for today's standards the power isn't horrible either. I would take a 2.2L eco with a stick. The 2.2L ohv came with a worse manual. You get what you pay for with Cavaliers.
Too bad 3.4Ls weren't reliable. Otherwise I would go for it. The 1995 Camaro has the best aerodynamics! It rates up there on the top 100 cars ever. If you had a good engine in there it would be a great DD.

Hands down, 3.8. The 3.4's are gutless, and do not get as good of gas mileage. The 3.8 is a wonderfully reliable motor. The 3.8's will top out at about 135 if governor is removed.
I had one, ran smooth and quiet and was an awesome car with 145k.
