Fuel mileage of an LSx & 4L80 in a '72 Suburban?
I've been kicking around the swap for a while, but what I'm curious about is fuel mileage.
I'm probably going to swap in a 5.7L or 6.0L LS motor and a 4L80 trans. What kind of fuel mileage does everyone think I could expect? I've looked up mileage for 2000 - 2006 Suburbans, but I can only find mileage for the 5.3L. Most sites quote 14 city/18 Hwy.
They used a 4L60 trans with 5.3 as well correct? So will the 4L80 reduce mileage?
Would a 6 speed manual trans get significantly better mileage than both autos?
Think the 6.0L will reduce mileage a lot over the 5.3L?
Thank everyone in advance for there input!

I don't think the manual trans is going to make a noticeable difference to improve gas mileage.
You are talking about swapping one the largest available Gen III/IV engines in one of the largest SUV's. Why even be concerned with economy at that point?

But I do think that you are taking a step in the right direction in ditching that 1950s technology. A 72 Burb cant weigh as must as a 2006, so you got 2 plusses working for you. But the 72 isnt 'as' areodynamic .
