it comes with a harness that hooks up to the MAP sensor, Crank sensor, Cam position sensor, Left and Right Coil packs. Also has a hook up for a two step

It comes with the harness.

The other harness I believe is shorter so the msd can be mounted right on the intake without having extra wire

The other harness (PN 88something) is so you can hook it up to the factory wiring harness. The one with the 6010 is long enough to where you can mount the box on the front of the intake and run the wires under and though the back of it(like mine is)

I'll suggest a Keyspan serial/usb converter

They seem to be the best out there

you can get the serial to USB converters for $9 on amazon. I got a cheap one and it works fine. it took a few tries to get the port numbers working right, but once that is done everything is very simple to use. Don't get discouraged, it is worth it when it works.

MSD needs to update the boxes to be USB. Adding a card reader so we can data log would be another bonus that shouldn't cost too much.

it's probably a dumb question but do you still need the stock ecu or the 6010 replace the stock ecu.

This is the info I have:
If your crank position sensor is on the top/rear of the engine (black in color) it is 24 tooth...listed as '97-'05.
If your crank position sensor is on the timing cover (gray in color)...then it is 58 tooth reluctor...should be '06 and later.

this only controls the ignition.... not anything else... for a carb setup,, but u could also run efi with it.. they sell a harness for that..

It's the crank position sensor not the cam one, that is what determines the which one you need need, if crank position sensor is black, you need the 24X one (6010), if its gray you need the 58X one (6012)

Oops...these sensors are still somewhat foreign to me. That's one reason I am going to a carb.

You'll still be using these two sensors, unless you also go to a distributor.

cam sensor is on the top of the block ( ls1 24x )
located in the timing cover on the LS2.
both engines use a block mounted crank sensor.

I had the same issue with mine. I also have Vista and got a USB to 9 pin cable from Radio Shack and it worked. I also had to go to MSD's site and upload the new version of the Pro Data 3.19. My box came with the old software( 3.11 ) and I couldn't get my laptop to "talk" to the box. Called MSD and they told me I had to upload the newer version.

FYI: MSD preset the rev limiter at 5500 rpm so if you pull past that you'll have to change it first thing, guess how I know
