Default The yota lives.

Thanks to Jeff, Jay, and Brian, at Mayhem Motorsports of Raleigh NC for dealing with my crazy *** during this process! This has always been a dream of mine, and like it or not I did it!! I know it would have been smarter for so many reasons to do a 4.6 4v swap, but I just dont know if the welds on my floorboard will hold it..

88 yota 2wd w/ 4x4 metal all around.
Cammed LS1, stock heads, speed density, T56, 8.8 w/traclock and 3.73's, TRACTION DELETE.

Man its like crack, you just cant get enough..lol

Ill try to get some pics to help you guys that are doing the yota swap, with my home fabbed motor mounts, my tranny mount sits right on top of the stock tranny crossmember, just did a lil boxing and have a poly tranny mount...also torsion bars are all in the way so a set of coil overs is not far down the road.

Any question you guys have ill be happy to help.

What are your torsion bars in the way off? I'm at work so I didn't see your vid, but reading it sounds like you just got it running? If so, then I still have a chance :p

I have been driving my 86 2wd for about 1 1/2 years now. LS6, 2004R, 3.73 Exploder 8.8.
No problems at all. Weighs in at 2600#. The torsion bars block any exhaust exit so I used the LS2 Vette manifolds flipped so the exhaust runs over the top and then down in front of the engine into duals. The 4wd setups that people are doing allows the engine to sit higher in the chassis so exhaust routing is easier. Nice sleeper - beater. The Ca. police are pulling over imports and Mustangs with no cause and demanding open hood inspections and issuing huge emission tickets. Semi quiet exhaust and no visible pipes keeps it a sleeper so far. Absolutely a thrill to drive and wonder what direction it willl go next. This has been the cheapest conversion I have encountered.
No welding, minimum fabrication. Glad to help if you have questions.

Thanks man, I was wondering what it would weigh when im thru..and im trying to come up with a coilover shock/big brake setup on the front so i can x the torsion bars, and try headers, I have camaro manifolds with the stock flange cut off and its real tight but they do clear, then i have an xpipe into dumps. What rear suspension upgrades do you have?

Right now I am running the stock rear leaf springs. The 8.8 was a direct bolt in and it has about 2-3" of lowering block. I used the Explorer rear sway bar for awhile but it was too rigid, although the truck handled much better with it installed. I have gas shocks on it now to keep the tires from rubbing but it is not a great launch combination. Any ideas?

Thats exactly what i have now, I plan on narrowing 2 inches on each side, then saving up and buying a mono leaf setup and caltracs, drag shocks... Im disabled now from a motorcycle accident so money is tight and progress is slow, but this project keeps my spirits up so Im hoping to just drive it the way it is for a while.
