Lookin good! Thats a cool old Ram! I almost bought one of those when I was in high school...but when with a blazer instead. Still have a soft spot for those old trucks though.
Out of curiousity...why dont you want to go with manifolds? The 02 manifolds flow very well, almost as good as shorty's. You've already stated that you arent building the truck to go fast, so you wont really notice the headers vs. the manifolds in your application. If its just a preference thing...completely understand. Just curious.
Anxious to see this thing together and running! That LS looks TINY in there! You should see if you can get a 440 mock up block, and cut it out to fit over the LS and disguise it while filling up some of the space haha.
Good luck finishing it up!

I was really wanting longtubes, I do want to be able to run the truck at the track to see what kind of number it gets vs the 440, but at the same time get good mileage by not putting a cam in there and stall like my camaro. I do agree, from what it looks like the block hugger headers and shorty's don't look any better then the stock manifolds. I'll figure it out one way or another.

I cant believe how small it looks in that engine bay! That's pretty awesome. I'm thinking of putting a 5.3 in my dad's 71 GMC. I'm sure it will look the same way.
It's funny because the newer trucks are big too, but I guess all the extra crap in the engine bay fills them up.

If your still wanting to run headers, I have a couple sets laying around. I have a set of coated Pacesetter shorties for a F-Body, as well as a set of longtubes off a 04 truck. I'm pretty sure they would be VERY close fitting.

Yeah, I've been busy trying to find a 4l60e to replace the 700r4 I was going to run,
I should have it rebuilt my the weekend and more pics will follow, I have also been waiting on a p/s pump that came in today, so I will be able to bolt up all the front acc.

Finally got the tranny rebuilt, front acc. on, and headers lined out.
I ran into one small problem when installing the np208....the front output hangs down lower then any other t-case and now I'm going to have to notch the crosmember, and space up the tranny mount about an inch

Awesome swap man, I want to do this to my family's 2001 Dodge Dakota. I love mopar, don't get me wrong, the 5.9 was a stout motor and treated me well, but the 3.9L V6 was less than sufficient. After blowing it up 3 times you'd think they'd let me swap an LS1 in that too lol
I am interested to see how it turns out, are you going to try and run AC?

I need to get more pics up, but so far I have connected the throttle, used a driveshaft from a 96 trans am(yes it fits pefect), ran my tranny lines, mounted radiator, re-installed body harness, computer and engine harness.
I have the fuel system, just need to mount it up, finish shift linkage, and wiring. I'm going to save the wiring for last, but first I need to send my computer off to get the security turned off so theres no issue there.

Man that LS1 looks tiny in there. You know there is enough room to run a roots style supercharger on top of that LS1.
Also, I'm just curious about the year on that Ram. My uncle had one of those, an early 90's model with the 5.9 Cummins diesel in it. Freaking awesome truck, dead nuts reliable, but the rust finally got to it around 250k miles and 15 years. It really was a shame, because that truck never missed a lick, I'm sure it could have gone another 150k in a more southern environment.
