Default What ECU to use with 6.0L LQ9??

I want to build an LQ9 with LS6 intake, ported TB, TSP 228R cam running painless wiring kit.

Do i need a camaro ECU even though its made for a 5.7L? or should i run the escalade ECU the motor is out of even though its not designed for power? I know either way it'll need a tune so does it even matter?

Thanks,
Jeff

2001-2006 Excalades used 5.3 and 6.0 engines. They came with a Warren PCM which is what the LS1 camaros used. So grab the PCM and harness if you can. It can be tuned no problem.

1999 - 2001 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1 = 9354896 = 512kb

2002 - 2003 Camaro/Firebird/Corvette LS1 = 12200411 = 512kb

2004 Corvette & 2004 GTO = 12586242 = 1mb

2004 - 2005 Cadillac CTS-V = 12586242, 12589463 = 1mb

2002 - 2004 Holden = 12200411 = 512kb

1999 - 2000 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) = 9354896 = 512kb

2001 - 2002 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) = 12200411 = 512kb

2003 - 2005 LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) = 12582605, 12586242, 12589463 = 1mb

2006 - 2007* LS1 Trucks (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L) (* classic trucks only ) = 12582811, 12602802 = 1mb

Some of the PCM's are DBW ONLY so it is important to know what the application is.

I like to use the 1mb pcm when ever I can

hmmm... i will be using a cable driven TB... which ones are the DBW only?

Looks like :12586242, 12589463 are the 1mb ones used in both trucks and cars

Do these ECU's work right away with any of the engine combos? Like if i bought one from a 5.3L silverado would it run with out problems in the 6.0L with out tune??

You need "IAC DRIVERS INSTALLED"

2003 PCM Cable Throttle DOES WORK:
Serv. No. 12576106
Hwd. No. 12570558

2004
GTO PCM, Cable Throttle DOES WORK:
Serv. No. 12586243
Hwd. No. 12583659

2004
Silverado PCM, DOES NOT WORK with cable throttle:
Serv. No. 12586242
Hwd. No. 12593660

2005
Express PCM, Cable Throttle DOES WORK
Serv. No. 12589462
Hwd. No. 12589161

Almost every other 2005 or 2006 PCM I have seen from a Silverado, has Hwd. No. 12589162. This Hwd. No. WILL NOT work.

I did come across a 2007 Express 6.0 that had DBW. To make things confusing, its Serv. No was 12602801, but Hwd. No. was 12589161, SAME as an 05 Express PCM. Go figure...I dont know what GM is doing.

SERV. NO.- HWD NO.
12576106 - 12570558 - 2003 G-VAN, LM7, IAC DRIVERS INSTALLED. ALSO C-TRUCK LM7
12582605 - 12580786 - 2003 C-MPV, L59
12586242 - 12583660 - 2004 C/K-TRUCK, LM7
12586243 - 12583659 - 2004 GTO LS1, IAC DRIVERS INSTALLED
12589463 - 12589162 - 2005 C/K-TRUCK/MPV, LM7, LQ4
12589462 - 12589161 - 2005 G-VAN, LQ4, IAC DRIVERS INSTALLED
12589463 - 12589162 - 2006 C-PICKUP, LM7
12602802 - 12589162 - 2006 C-PICKUP, L59
12602801 - 12589161 - 2007 Express, Drive by Wire, (hwd. no suggests it might have IAC drivers??)

im going to go with:

2004
GTO PCM, Cable Throttle DOES WORK:
Serv. No. 12586243
Hwd. No. 12583659

Is this one a 1mb one?

on ebay they list that number for both 6.0L's and 5.7's

Although my 2nd question, are they different programs/tunes?

They use a different OS then the earlier 512K PCM's
Personally I feel most guys prefer the 12200411 (512K) PCM's since there is a lot more tunes out there that was done on them

PoconoJoe can set you up.

I will send him this link.
the fans will be remote, they wont be controlled by the ECU and the car wont have AC

I will have to send you some 1mb calibration info like I did on the 512kb

You can alway copy over the few table that people can adjust

You can do more now with the VDF editor than almost anyone. You could be a true Calibration Editor now.

You can build custom OSID's also

The 99-02 camaro (warren) is DBC and works great.

CalEditor, I'm curious why you need/prefer the 1mb over the 512k. Do you run out of room? I've never heard my tuner say he's "ran out of tuning memory." Please explain.

The Operating Systems have a lot more parameters. I would say about 2x as many.

E85 stuff also and some systems don't even need an E85 sensor. The program can sniff out the percentage of E85 and adjust the AFR and spark tables.

Which systems would that be for the E85?

Virtual Flexible Fuel Sensor
The Virtual Flexible Fuel Sensor algorithm replaces a sensor used to measure the concentration of ethanol in the fuel supply of the vehicle, and automatically adjusts the fuel control system to account for that concentration. This allows the sensor to be eliminated from those vehicles capable of ethanol fuel.

This innovation is being applied to flexible fuel (ethanol & gasoline) applications beginning in the 2006 model year. The Virtual Flexible Fuel Sensor allows GM to realize a savings of approximately $47M in MY2006, along with continued cost avoidance for all future ethanol applications.

These run a $350 sensor
This is a crude E85 calibration and runs on a 512kb PCM
2002 5.3L Flex 12216125.bin

These are some 1mb E85 cals. I am not sure when GM switched to The Virtual Flexible Fuel Sensor. Maybe the 06 and 07's. I remember seeing something in some of the calibrations.
2003 5.3L Flex K1500 12593058.bin
2004 Suburban 5.3L FlexFuel 12587603.bin
04 Tahoe Z71 5.3L Flex Update 12606960.bin
05 5.3L Flex 12592618 .bin
06 1500 5.3L Flex 2wd stock 12606807 .bin
2006 K1500 5.3L Flex 4X4 Stock 12619623 .bin
2007 5.3L GM E85 update 12619624 .bin

I will take a look for The Virtual Flexible Fuel Sensor information in the non CAN PCM's

Cool, thanks for the help. Just trying to figure out which car/truck would be best to try to find for swap parts with the plan of running E85 at times.
