Default Build Questions - LQ9 L92 Fox

Well, the time has come to sell the dsm and I recently picked up a 89 notchback and just getting my ducks in a row before ordering everything to do a lq9 swap!

I am going to be using the aje k member with transmission mount for a th350 so the installation should not be that bad. Its complete stripped interior including gas tank so ill be using the fuel cell out of my dsm and lines/fuel pump from that also (-8 feed/-6 return/Bosch 044 inline/Fuelab Filter).

For the motor I have a LQ9 out of a 2002 escalade and gonna get some l92 heads for it. Thinking about putting arp rod bolts in it while the motor is out but not sure if ill need to do an align-hone though. (anyone?, we have to when we put them in 4g63s) I have not decided on what cam ill be running yet so flycutting may need to be done.

Intake ill be running http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/29087/10002/-1 which im not exactly sure if this is what I need or not? (anyone?) I do NOT plan on running FI in this car for simplicity reasons. (absolutely HATED tuning my talon) So if anyone has an idea on a carb for this sort of setup that would be amazing help as I have never really dealt with a carb in my life before.

Suspension wise I really dont know what I have planned yet.

Drivetrain - I plan on using a th350 with a 3500-4k stall with shift kit/trans brake/ B&M shift kit. Rear end for now will be a 8.8 that is in the car with 4.10 gears.

If anyone has any comments or concerns with this setup please tell me or if I have forgotten anything please tell me. Like I said this is the first time I have ever really dealt with the "displacement" world and hopefully it will treat me better than the transmission eating dsm world!

Goals for the car are 10's. Not a very specific goal but I would hope with 3 times the displacement of my 4g63 I can at least run the same if not faster than the 2.0. Ha

Thanks again and appreciate all the help I can get!

Derrick Hofstetter - Budget is not really the issue so keep that in mind and this will be mainly drag car with very few street miles put on it!

sounds good for the most part man, the only thing i see thats wrong is that the intake you have shown will not work. the intake ports on the ls1 intake manifold are the cathedral style port, and the l92/ls3 heads are rectangle port...so if your going carb'd then you will have to go with the edelbrock victor jr. manifold for ls3/l92 heads like this one http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/28457/10002/-1. for the carb, you will need atleast a 750, either a holly or mighty demon would work fine.

but besides that, you should be good to go. i am actually going to do the same thing in my 96 gt...im just trying to find the short block right now. i would highly recommend installing the arp rod bolts if your looking to make some seroius power out of the setup.for my setup, im going to have the lq9 with fully built and p/p l92 heads and i will be getting them milled down .030 to raise compression a smidge. im looking at a special grind cam with around a 113 lsa +2...this cam works well with or without nitrous...which i will be running. im looking at having around 500 n/a wheel hp out of a fully built th350 and a ford 8.8 with 3.27 gears. and on the gas im hoping for around 750 to 800...mmr makes awesome suspension for the mustang, fairly cheap and track proven. im looking to go full coilover, front and rear through mmr

anyway....i dont want to keep rambling on, hope it helps and send me a pm if you have any other questions. good luck and hope everything goes well

^^^ Thanks alot for the link..... can you maybe explain a little more on your fuel setup? I guess on our straight 4 is fairly simple as its intank pump, -8 an feed to bosch 044 inline pump, more line, inline fuel filter, more line, fuel rail inlet, fuel rail outlet, line, fuel pressure regulator, -6 an return to tank.... Can someone explain how my setup would work with a carb and bosch 044 ? Will be running fuel cell/-8 feed not that it matters. Would like to keep as much as possible from my old setup to keep from having to re buy so much stuff.

Thanks again, Derrick Hofstetter

might be a dumb answer, but i think the c5 reg. only works for the fuel injected swaps...

How do I go about the fuel setup on a carb setup? And I have never owned a carbed vehicle in my life if that says anything. Just wanting to try the other side of the fence.

Setup wise, your car and mine will be very similar. Fuel wise I'm going to be using all Aeromotive pieces.

-10 feed from the cell
100 micron filter mounted to inlet side of the pump
A1000 pump
100 micron filter mounted to the outlet side of the pump
-10 feed to a 13204 carb bypass regulator
-8 return line back to the cell

Ya, going slow until I can get everything ordered... parting out my talon is not exactly going the greatest. I have a 3500$ tranny that I cant even get 1000 out of, and motor I put WELL over 3k into and cant get 1k.

Parts Ordered!
$800 - 60k Mile LQ9 out of 2003 escalade
$800 - L92 heads
$600 - Edelbrock 2908 carb intake manifold and msd ignition control unit

Not sure what carb/cam/springs/retainers to run.... Gonna run a th350 built by rossler with a trans brake i think.

You didn't buy the Edelbrock/MSD unit did you? The MSD 6010 box is the one that lets you program your timing curve and even the preset chips are different than the Edelbrock chips.
