Default 58x to 24x conversion for drive by cable

Sorry to bring up again-getting more confused. In order to use a drive by cable on a 58x engine, you have to use the Lingenfelter trigger? I have to use dbc to hook up to my newly rebuilt 2004r, so not willing to change trannies. Now a fabricator has told me I can use dbc with 58x reluctor if I use older camaro computer. He called it a something 11 box??? I have heard there are issues with the Lingenfelter. Any truth to the camaro 11 thingy? thanks, Scott!

You need both.
The "411" box is the 99-02 Camaro, Corvette, truck computer used for DBC. So you would need this computer, and the LPE 58x>24x conversion box to make the computer work on the engine.

Pull the engine apart and change the reluctor to a 24x

so, after 2 years of research and countless posting on the forums, I got an answer. I noticed that when the car magazines do a crate engine build, a lot of times they put a drive by cable on an engine that came with drive by wire. They make no mention in the article of the trigger conversion or reluctor wheel change. So I decided to call the dyno company always mentioned in the articles-Westech Performance. Ernie at westech says they do not use the trigger or change the reluctor. Its all in the the tuning. He said using HP tuner software he can reprogram the computer and eliminate the drive by wire function. That is so cool , now you can buy a crate engine an not have to tear it apart to run an older non computer controlled tranny that needs a cable connector. I just wanted to share this with everyone. YAHOO!!!

You can eliminate the DBW with tuning on some PCM`s, However, its not as simple as it sounds. You need a PCM which has IAC drivers. The only PCM`s that may have them are the van PCMs but Im not sure when the vans switched from 24 to 58x and DBC to DBW. The 04`GTO PCM had drivers but its 24x

The real question is why would you want to? The DBW works awesome. NO cable, perfect throttle response, etc...

If you have a 58x engine just get the right ECU and the other hardware and find a suitable pedal to mount in your vehicle. There are at least 3 different pedal types that I know of, and probably more.

I see absolutely no reason to go through the various BS to convert a 58x engine to drive by cable. I also second the BS comment about what the guy at Westech said...

I realize this is a resurrected old thread.
I also want to run drive-by-cable with a 58x LS3. (I currently a 24x LS2).
I prefer to run a 4150 style intake with throttle body on top and of course SD.
Since I have HP Tuners I searched their forum for this question. The main guy/owner (Chris) said that while he has heard info about tuning some PCMs from 58x to 24x he is still waiting to get his hands on one. Therefore I agree with #7's conclusion.
There is a rumor that ls1tune might support this on select PCMs, but I cannot find details and don't have that tuning software.

IIRC someone has created an OS or segment swap that allows drive-by-wire, but cannot find the details now. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

As I study this more, it appears that 58x GM PCMs do not support or even have wiring connections for an IAC. So it is looking like either having a 24x reluctor installed, spend $2000+ for the Holley Dominator EFI. (There are too many reliability complaints about the Lingenfelter 58x->24x converter which sounds like a kluge anyway.)
It probably will depend upon whether I buy an LS3 short block, long block or crate engine.
It appears quite a few other people asking these same questions.

Default reluctor conversion

Four years ago you were relutant to ditch the 200R4. Lots have changed and now the 6L80E is available and would be compatiable with the ECU for the 58x reluctor. Might be cheaper in the long run too!

Also Microsquirt or any aftermarket engine controller will run either the 24x or 58x. Most controllers are engine only and cannot run a electronic trans.

Thank you for the additional ideas.
33willys: You have mixed me up with someone else; I have never owned a 700R4.
Controlling my 4L65E is critical to me, which the Holley Dominator handles.
While I spent many years designing and building electronics, the Megasquirt is a bit too DIY for me; I would likely just end up working on the electronics and software and ignore the rest of the car. I am familiar with the MegaShift trans controller too.

Microsquirt is assembled and they even have a plug in play kit for LS engines. I installed one and it works great. Cheap too

Does the 24x and 58x reluctor interchange on crankshafts? Just pull one off, and put the other one on? No machining required?
