Default LQ9 408 in 1970 Trans Am

Hi, swapping a 408 LQ9 with L92 heads in my 1970 trans am. i am going to be using the shaker hood so i was wondering which intake manifold is the tallest? The carbureted victor jr, performer rpm or the GMPP? this is crucial due to the shaker scoop clearance.

Thanks for your help.

You have a couple of options....you can go with the higher intake and use a drop-base like the blockers or WFO performance one or try out the RPM and possibly get a stocker to fit.

Either way you probably aren't going to get a perfect solution. I would probably try the Vic Jr and go with a Blockers/WFO base and see where that lands u.

i did read about the WPO drop base, since i have a pontiac 350 with an edelbrock performer rpm right now in the car. was just making sure if i bought the WPO drop base that it would work with the LSx design as well? Does anyone know the height of a pontiac engine vs a LQ9?

just discovered the victor jr. is 1" taller than the GMPP intake. Does anything think the shaker will still clear with the victor jr with a WFO drop base unit?

Nice car I have a 73 that I'd like to do a carb LS setup on but would like to use the formula hood. If you do go that route your going to have to post how tall it is so I can see if I can get something to fit!

The formula hood offers no clearance at all. I have about 1/8" inch from the top of the carb to the hood (no air cleaner) !!!.

Good info, now I need to find out how much taller a vic JR is to the other choices out there! If you had the time I'd love to get a measurement from the valley pan to the top of the carb? Edelbrock I think has the manifold hieght so even the carb height would be helpful for comparison!

Need new pics man!
