Thanks man. How far along are you? I'm now working out all the hydraboost and steering. Got the Astro booster-Cherokee gear some of the lines-all the mounts. Still need headers and truck accessory drives. I'll get the truck stuff this weekend. Hope to have some new pics on my progress soon. Anyway good luck and if I can help out let me know.

Haven't got a whole lot done lately but here's some pics of what I did get accomplished.

Started cleaning up the ls1.

Then the 4l60e. Had a trans shop go thru it and add a shift kit. They didn't really clean the outside of the case very well. But I did.

Hi could u point me in he direction of where you picked those motor mounts up at?? Nice build btw, should be very helpful because I'm doing similar swap on my 71.

Thanks. I am using Energy suspension mounts. I called their tech line and they were very helpful.1-888-913-6374.I bought the kit with all 3 mounts and shim plates.The part# is 3.1122G. With all the clearance issues with oil pans (and my budget) I decided to try and make use of the stock F body pan. I did have to notch out the engine cradle but it worked out pretty good. The pan sits about 3/4" above the cradle meaning no ground clearance problems.The engine and tranny are now sitting in place with the cross member bolted in the factory holes and the mounts just slightly back from the stock location. I was worried about clearance issues with F body alt,ac compressor and evap case but it looks like they all clear. Here are some pics of the latest progress.

I used 3/16' steel plate that I had bent on a really strong metal break or
brake.

Alt just clears Cherokee steering sector. Should be able to slide a belt on but just in case I think I can get a little more clearance with some careful grinding.

AC compressor mounted up fine but I may have to change it to one that has the lines out of the side rather than the end....or,another notch.

Evap case seems to have plenty of room between it and the passenger cyl head. Boy I didn't want to loose the ac.

Cross member worked out with no mods needed...I had heard many people on here say they had to cut and flip the pad. I guess that's only if your running the T56. Glad I didn't cut it off already.Still need to check the drive line angle.

It's an aluminum mag wheel cleaner that removes brake dust. Can't leave it on too long though. Eagle one makes it also.

A Body Header alternative
Got my engine all mounted in and have been trying to figure out what to do about headers.Looks like prices start at about 400.00 and go up from there. So I took my none EGR F body manifolds to my machinist and he said that they are a very good design and should be good up to 550/600 HP.I thought that's great if I could just get to clear the frame. So after another trial fit I decided to have the bottom side machined down 3/16" to o" at the top. My machinist said no problem since most of the meat is on the bottom anyway. I got the back Friday and they fit like a glove. I now have about an inch clearance from the frame and they tucked right in to the block. I have "No" clearance issues anywhere. Best 75.00 I've spent in a long time. I,ll post some new pics soon.

For the AC HVAC boxes, what I did was remove the left Side case, cut a notch into it where you need clearance, flip it over and use a fiberglass repair kit to reattach it back. You can also use some. Bondo to Pretty it up and then paint it to match. You should be able to get a 1/2" to 3/4" more room.


I had room around the head, but need the extra room around the spark plugs

great build you've got going! what a good idea with the exhaust manifolds. i would have never thought of doing that. check out my page if you get a chance. im also in the middle of a 70 chevelle build and pretty close to the same place in my swap as you so keep posting up the pics! ill def be following yours.
