Just getting started on my swap and I am kinda new to forums. I have found the information available here is amazing and it has already contributed to the challenges of swapping the old 350/350 in my 70 Chevelle to an 02 Camaro SS ls1 with 4L60e. I spent 4 years restoring the body and interior and got it on the road Thanksgiving. Only to see it practically burn to the ground Saturday before Christmas. While adjusting the float on the 650 Holley a rag ignited and engulfed the engine compartment in flames. Two extinguishers later I managed to get it out with a whole lot less damage than it could have been. The distributor,wiper motor,ac harness, and main engine harness were melted. My newly painted hood blistered and peeled.
So a friend who had been doing a ls swap in his 68 Nova called after the fire. Seems he abandoned his plans to finish the swap and made me a deal on his package. It included the 02 ls1 and T56 with 53k miles on it. A complete fuel system with a new tank, Pump,sending unit for Dakota digital dash, correct filter,braided lines with AN fittings. The tank has mods done including baffle.
It also has the engine harness and ecm that was sent to Speartech for mods,deletions,labeling and ecm reprogram.
It came with Speedway racing mount plates and New Dynotech 1 3/4" long tube ceramic coated headers. Unfortunately they will not fit my Chevelle. So if anybody needs Nova ls swap headers let me know.
Since the fire I have removed the front clip,tank ,350/350 and front suspension. I have been mocking up the mounts but don't have the tranny yet. I decided to run a 4l60e that I got from a friends salvage yard. It is now rebuilt and ready for me to pick it up.Hopefully I can get it next week. By the way, I also have the T56 setup for sale if anyone needs one.
I really wasn't planning on tearing the drive-train out so soon but a big fire will shake things up in a hurry. I was planning on upgrading the suspension first but now I'm just gonna have to get it all done before it get's back on the road. I have the BMR pro 2 suspension package that we'll get installed as we do the swap. It really needed some help with the handling. Hopefully I have chosen well.

Good choice for the swap. This should prove to be a fun,(in my opinion) value added upgrade to the car. Too bad tragedy precipitated this chapter in the evolution.

Got a lot done this weekend. Started bolting on new suspension after all the cleaning,painting ,cutting,drilling welding and ciphering. Finished the tank after 2 trips to a friends shop to use his pipe bender. That's because I used the new Nova tank that came with the package when I bought it. It already had the pump,sending unit and baffle welded in. Figured I might as well try it since it was only 2 gallons smaller and I should get better mileage with the LS package. All I had to do was bend the neck up about 2" and it fit great. It also gave me more clearance at the front for the filter and regulator. Bout time to go to the front of the car now. I have the engine sitting in the frame and that's about it.So a new adventure begins......I'll keep ya posted.

I appreciate the good comments and encouragement. Looks like I'm gonna need a lot of that before this thing gets done.

 

what did you use for a sending unit?

 

Classic instruments adjustable fuel level sender kit.You need to get the one with the correct resistance for your gauge. Mine is for a Dakota digital. Check em out at: www.classicinstruments.com

im considering these for my chevelle, seems pretty easy to set up, you set empty and full on the gas gauge and it has a gps mph gauge.

I was just working on getting some of those gauges installed over the weekend. They fit well.

Seeing the rear end out like that makes me think it might not be too hard of a job. Did you just use a floor jack to get the rear in and out?

 

Subscribed. This is one of my dream builds.

 

Chuck the rear end is one of the easier jobs as far as upgrading. My son and I have done many on the ground with a floor jack and stands. I used to use the lift but still have to lower it down to get it in anyway.

Getting my 4l60e trans tonite. Can't wait to start fitting the power plant. Update ya later.

My70, you convinced me to give it a shot. I have to pull my axles and do some other stuff anyway so it might be for the best anyway. Might be a good time to get a new drive shaft made as well.
Are you running that braided fuel line the length of the car? Where did you order it?

 

Yes I'm running a corvette filter with the built in regulator. The pump has an inlet and outlet to the filter on one side and a single feed to the injectors. You can get the line and AN fittings from Summit or Jegs. But don't forget to get the AN line tool,it really helps,
