What motor exactly do you have? If it's a truck motor, then yes it will probably hit the hood. You will need a intake off of a car like the LS1 intake, depending on what engine you have.

have looked at a bunch of different builds on here, i was unable to find one of an actual impala.. some show it hitting the hood some show it not. the ones not hitting seem to have oil pan clearance issues.. just trying to get as much input as possible

Believe me when I tell you they are here. I'm at work on my tablet so I'm limited but there are at least four Impalas, an El Camino and one Bel-Air in the 1959 to 1964 range. Search is your friend.

I have a 62 Biscayne, the GTO pan won't work, it's a front sump pan. I'm running a f-body pan. Lots of hood room. Check my other posts, there's a few pics of a ls engine installed with s-10 ls headers on it.

thanks.. im thinking F body.. but im still super concerned with the hood hitting.. some guys have had luck shaving the intake a little and grinding down the alternator.. the reason im going with a 5.3 truck LS is the price.. ebay a company back east sells them turn key stand alone for 1200-1700 depending on milage.. BUT to put the LS1 intake would require dirtydindos water pump spacer, alternator relocator andthen the wiring for throttle body and injectors wouldnt be the same.. more money and stress haha

now the decision of going to an LS1? im 22 and really cant afford it..im trying to find a used one with computer and just worry about wiring later? but i would want to run a 700r or 200 4r tranny..

so confused on what to do haha

Save up some extra cash and buy a ls-1 with a 4l60-e trans, then you don't have to worry about exchanging intakes or spacers. Your biggest expense after the engine/trans purchase wil be the wring and exhaust system.

thats really what im leaning towards..

anyone have a connection? i can afford the engine and tranny right now i think if i buy used..but i think ill still need camaro headers and oil pan. also need to find someone who makes the crossmember.. ill cut the sheet metal on my floor but its at my house and i cant fabricate my own crossmember right now on jackstands haha. i think i have the wiring figured out locally if i can get an engine with the wiring..

NEED AN LS1 AND TRANNY USED FOR GOOD PRICE let me know if anyone has anything.. will continue hunting.

Default Impala headers

In case your interested. I have a new pair of mid-length headers for your Impala. They are from S&P Perfromance, Chromex coated and come with collectors and V clamps.

Michael.

I am doing a 64 impala right now with a 5.3 truck engine and 4L60E auto trans. We used the F Body pan on this, but we did have to section the front crossmember for it to totally clear as seen in the attached. We used 2010 Camaro 6.2 exhaust manifolds.....though the headers firehawk have would be sweet. The hood clears if you leave the intake cover off and barely touches with it on.There is a valve on top of the motor that needs to be removed to and plugged.I attached a pic of the motor in the car.
We had a ATF cooler mounted in the bottom of the stock radiator which had a nice core.We are removing the fan and going electric so we can keep the battery in the stock location and make an air intake for the left side.
Let me know if you need any help......we arent done yet and are learning on the fly !!

Your still running a single line master cylinder? Damn, your brave. Instead of knotching the frame, you could have built up the mounts abit, but with a truck intake, you might have clearance issues.

Nah ..the brakes are being changed over to power disc. Since they work we want to get the engine running
The crossmember was massaged so the oil pan cleared.1 hour of work.
Would have loved to have used a car intake...but all of those parts and half the front of the engine =$$$$$

Truck oil pan WILL be too low on your car. Also, the truck oil pan is thicker at the front where the crossmember needs to be notched, so if you didn't notch it and used a truck pan, you'd probably have to cut a hole in the hood for the intake to stick out of!

F body pan and a couple small notches are so your driveline angles will be good. And then yes, the intake will clear.

I got My 5.3 on Saturday and spent all of Saturday and Sunday cleaning the engine up. Turned out pretty clean. I ordered an fbody pan and all the parts to make it work. I ordered the ebay s10 headers and hptuners. What Motor mounts work the best? I have a th350 in the car now with the sbc. I'm going 4l60e and would like the engine as forward as possible.
