Default What's a decent price on an LQ4

I recently bought a 1972 "Heavy Chevy" Chevelle roller and am looking at motor swap options. What's a good price on an LQ4? I found one in a 2004 2500 Silverado 84K miles, 2WD, complete takeout, 4l80 trans, all accessories, ECU, harness, etc for 2,500.

Where are you located?

I was quoted $2850 for a 2002 LQ9 with 96k and 4l60e with 63k + all other accessories

Doesn't seem all that bad of a price. At least to me and the prices I have been seeing lately. Some places on ebay want $2200++ alone just for the engine that has over 100k. Not even talking trans prices yet.

I would buy it depending on its condition, or even try to haggle a little $50-100 off.

Get them to pull the oil pan and windage tray so you can have a look at the bottom end. Try and get them to pull the heads so you can see the pistons/cylinders. I bought a motor last week, bottom end was perfect. Get it home and pull the heads to find a surprise.

^^^ this. I paid $525 for my lq4 no trans. It was a shortblock that came with heads and valve covers.

If you are getting everything as you described it is probably a decent price. Those little things can add up so get all you can including the drive shaft for the yoke. If it is drive by wire get the accelerator pedal while you are at it. Get all you can.

Thanks for all the advice. I didn't think about getting the driveshaft for the yoke. I'm hoping we can run it and at least pull the pan so I can get a look at the bottom end. They said the truck is complete so I should be able to get everything.

I agree. I think its a fair price. You can nickel & dime yourself really easy. If DBW... see if there is a TB control box. I am betting its DBw.

I think the secret is out. These truck motors make for some really nice drop in swaps for all kinds of projects. So simple high demand and interest go up, so will the prices unfortunately. But I think the price you looking at is reasonable.

Agreed; get everything possible from accessories to exhaust headers and all the little tid-bits you can. If you plan on retaining the evap system, get the charcoal cannister and all the lines and sensors/solenoids. As mentioned, those things add up real fast. $2500 seems like a decent price given the condition is good.
