1965 A-Body, Headers? Headers? Headers?
Well it seems just when you think you have things all figured out you don't. I have been looking at the swaps on this board and available headers. I have a 1965 Buick Skylark that an L92 motor and 6L80E transmission will be going into.
For best performance it seems most are recommending 1 7/8" headers with my setup. From what I see that is pretty much the Hookers. Now they appear to have fitment issues and hang pretty low. Are there other options in 1 7/8" headers. I will have power steering.
With 1 3/4" headers we have Dougs which also appear to have fitment issues with the floor boards and clearing the trans cross member. There are probably a couple of others out there. I could buy the uncoated Dougs and do the modifications and then send them out to be coated. However I prefer the 1 7/8" headers for the added power.
So, what are the latest thoughts regarding headers?

I have a B-body ('65 Impala) and I found out that 1 7/8" '67-'69 Camaro LS swap headers fit my car perfectly. They are fairly tight to the block, and tube #2 on the driver's side arches up and back, then down with the others. This clears a huge spot around the steering box. I paid $400 shipped from Summit. Came with bolts and gaskets too.

Hooker's hug the floor pan better than Edelbrock's but that's all going to depend on the engine mount setup. I had Hookers on my 64 before going FI, the spark plug wire clearance was shitty at best, I wont buy those again if I go back to NA. My advice is to do lots of research and buy the best you can afford. Good luck.

Then there are the BRP header. I am still looking but it appears there are fitment problems with those plus a $450 mounting kit. Kooks make a 1 7/8" stainless header but it is $922.90 at Summit and you have to use there collector. What to do, what to do?
