Default Jmac's L33/t56 S14 240sx build

Well I've been sourcing parts and anticipating my build for over a year now. I Have been into 240's for several years now. I currently own two S14's. My red S14 is a daily 400whp Ka-t and has been super reliable so far. My other S14 is basicly stock drivetrain with new paint coilovers and decent wheels. Well as of right now I have a freshly rebuilt L33 5.3. I recenly scored a fbody T56 with an Ls7 clutch, flywheel and pro 5.0 shifter. Over the weekend I finished completely rebuilding my L33 5.3. I also installed a TR224 114lsa camshaft and Pac 1215 springs. I have a bunch of pics I have taken of the engine rebuild process. I will post them soon. Here's the car.

L33 freshly rebuilt by me
Dyno Tuned by Flaco perfrormance in pasadena,tx (346whp 325 wtq)
Fbody t56 trans
Hurst short shifter (also pro 5.0 shifter)
LS7 clutch and flywheel
Lm7 harness and pcm from 2001 chevy truck
Truck mafs
Truck coils and misc sensors
LS1 intake
28.8lb injectors
Tr224 114 lsa .563 lift
Pac valve springs 1215 good to .600 lift
GTO stk intake tube and spectre air filter
C6 Corvette exhaust manifolds
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
corvette Fuel filter regulator setup
mustang 2 power steering flow restrictor
Fbody front accessories
GTO oil pan
GTO dipstick and tube
Sikky power steering hoses
Wilwood clutch master
rigid racing mc adapter plate
3an line and adapters from speedway motors for clutch
Fbody driveshaft fits S14 without modding
spicer diff yoke flange
u-joint 1310 to 3r
Ottos mounts modified by me to fit with my manifolds
spare S14 crossmember modified by me
Altima dual fans
Various hoses, belts and fittings to make my dreams come true!

A few pictures before the rebuild. I prefabbed my crossmember to except a GTO oil pan.

Plasma cutting an extra S14 cross member so the GTO oil pan fits.

New oem head gaskets, new hastings rings, durabond cam bearings, Clevite rod and main bearings, melling oil pump, new timing kit and Felpro gaskets and bolts. Tr224 114lsa cam and Pac 1215 springs (not comp)

engine going together!

Here is my freshly rebuilt L33.

Here is my fuel set up. Nothing fancy just a walbro and the Ls fuel filter and fittings. Though the fittings aren't pictured I have them. lol

Fbody accessories and ls2 manifolds installed.

I painted my intake synergy green and my valve covers wrinkle black.

Getting ready to pull the shitty stock ka!

Ka, a/c and power steering parts removed. I drove this car saturday morning to get donuts with the a/c blowin cold,LOL!

Tunnel beat and cross member installed.

Installing engine! (Sorry for the size its a cell phone pic.)

Engine installed with a jack holding up the tranny till I build my trans cross member.

Cross member built but not totally finished. Still need to drill 2 holes and clean it up a bit and paint. F-body drive shaft installed. I Installed my conversion u-joint and spicer yoke and it fits perfect no shortening. From the j30 diff to the t56 output housing seal I measured 46 inches.

Clearance pics.

I installed an s13 clutch pedal using spacers cut to 29mm and tack welded to the pedal assembly along with a wilwood clutch master and various fittings I bought from speedway motors. I also finished installing my sikky power steering lines. Wow they are high quality and look awesome!
I also received my hurst shifter in the mail. I also got some of the wiring done to the ka engine harness. Labeled and cut then relabeled to make it easy like a car stereo, lol. I'm glad my car is a base model. No abs or cruise to deal with!

In these pics all thats left to do is wiring, exhaust and I'm waiting on my new O2 sensors to come in.

shifter location and sweet pic of my shifter ball and hurst shifter!

random pics!

Well finished the wiring on last thursday. On friday I was awaiting the shipment of my new front O2's so I could start it fro the first time. I got the o2's installed and primed the oil pump by leaving the F3 connector disconnected and turning it over with the starter off and on for about 5 to 10 minutes. I then hooked up the F3 connector which ties the engine to the car and pcm. Once the fuel pump primed it started right up and just sat there and loped.

On tuesday I drove it for the first time to get my exhaust finished at an exhaust shop in crosby texas called Fmg. No problems on the first drive.
Just obnoxiously loud, LOL.

Cell phone pic on the lift getting 2.5" duals back to the knock off apexi N1 dual setup. I had to pie cut and stub out from the manifolds on both sides. The steering shaft on the drivers side is so tight of an area.

Now I need a retune since my original tune was for a 4l60e and stock cam.
Sounds awesome and drives better than before. The steering feels better less disconnected more firm of a feel with the mustang 2 flow restrictor installed.

I need to get a video up now.

Poconojoe originally set up my pcm for my orginal plans. My build changed mid flight so my options are send back to poconojoe for the transmission swap or get it dyno tuned. Joe doesn't tune for cams so I think I will get it dyno tuned by a guy named Flaco. I've heard he is a really good tuner. Maybe this saturday we'll see.

I got them from ebay for $60 about a year ago. He had several sets new from crate engines. I ended up pie cutting 3" tubing to get around the steering shaft. The exhaust shop was thanking me for stubbing it out for them.

So which do you prefer?
The Ka-T or the LS1?

My ka-t car is really fast and fun but the ls1 is torquey and the sound is amazing along with an easy to work on engine. Thats a hard question to answer.

awesome build, clean as hell....i may go with the l33 for my rx8,if i can find a decent priced t56 otherwise i think its easier to just get a full ls1 swap and save time on sourcing parts....

I got it tuned at Flaco's Performance & Tuning in Pasadena,Tx. It laid down 346whp and 325wtq. Runs so good now that its tuned properly.

Here's my dyno sheet. The car has 180psi compression across the board and it has been flawless, not one problem so far. It starts right up and never misses a beat.

5.3s seem to love those smaller cams.. 224s make great power and still have good driveability.

Clean car.. I've had an Rb20, Rb25, Sr20 and a KA-T and the KA-T Ran like a raped ape in comparison.

Yeah I agree on the ka-t running like a raped ape. I sold my ka-t car a few months ago and now have an sr20 powered coupe I picked up for a drift car and it is just so lame at anything under 4k rpms. It has great topend but no scary factor at all.

For those who don't know, Ka-t is otherwise known as a ka24de which came NA and we turbo the little 2.4 liter 4 cylinder for loads of fun.

My built ka-t with a Holset he341 at 20psi.

My original built ka-t with a garrett gt2560r t28 @ 14psi. It needed cams and the turbo is almost to small but instant fun on the highway, LOL.

Talk about torque city with the small turbo ka-t lol! IMO, the KAt and SR sounded and ran identical up top but midrange power is totally different. Moreless a stroker SR.. if you look at even a stock KA head, the exhaust ports are monsters .. same example with the LS1 crowd. Even stock truck 5.3 heads flow better than some aftermarket alum heads for a sbc. It's a win win for the cam only and bolt on crowd. Good flowing heads make power easily.

Great build, I almost wished I kept the LS1 in my 240 fairly stock, then I smoke the the tires on the interstate doing 60 and I'm glad I didn't leave it stock, and someone just gave me another 240 after they blew the ka so debating whether to put a mild LS1 in or go with the sr or a ka-t,

I used a spicer flange made for the Nissan differential and used a 1310 to 3r u-joint. No resizing at all. I am also using the J30 differential and it's about 3/4 longer than the stock open diff. I was really excited when I figured out I would be able to drive my car since I didn't have to wait on the drive shaft to be resized.

well, i have a VSLD and if im not mistaken its the same size a the j30 dif. i guess it all depends on what mounts i go with and where the motor is place before ill know if i can use the stock fbody shaft without modding it. i read through you thread and didnt see what mounts you used or did you make your own?
