Default 65-70 impala swap $$$

Is it possible to swap a stock 4.8 or 5.3 in fairly cheaply? I own a 4l60e already. I have a rebuild able 283 and no transmission now, so i have choices. I could rebuild 283, buy headers, intake, carb, and 200r trans. or drop in used engine, trans, wiring fuel system an such. I know it would be allot of work but it seems like the way to go. The 283 setup would probably run 2k. How much would a swap cost? I have seen eng/trans/ wiring combos for 2k. I would probably need an oil pan + ++. Would stock manifolds fit? I am considering selling the car as is after hoolding on to it for 40 years. It needs full resto. Thanks for any help.

i done a 2005 5.3 4l60 swap in my chevelle for right at $1500.00. I done my own harness and everything else but computer program. i had to buy a f-body oil pan(new) and used 2000 camaro manifolds.a walboro 255lph inline pump from summit and a 2000 corvette filter / regulator from oriellys.i built my own mounts as well. been driving it everyday since may and have had no issues with it. runs great and gets awesome mileage 18-21 back and forth to work and seen almost 26 while on the power tour in june. hope this helps .

I am in the middle of a 5.3 swap into a 65 Impala SS. I paid $750 for a complete pulled motor from Bow Auto in NH. Trans cost me $300 used from craigslist. Fuel system and odds and ends, probably about $700.

I used the GMPP musclecar pan, but it hangs a little low. $150 I think

Headers, I used LS Swap headers for a 67-69 Camaro from Dynatech $400

Stock truck manifolds will not clear the steering. Fbody might, I dunno. You will also need to raise the motor mounts on the frame side because the oil pan will rest on the crossmember. You can see my build thread here: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...-5-3-swap.html

Holley Oil Pan and stock 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds......You will need to move the rear crossmember back 2 1/4" and the stock motor mount adaptor plates as sold need to be modified to reaise the engine up 5/8".........I would also swap out the stock steering box ( Power) for a new Delfi 500 series unit.........After install nothing sticks down below the front crossmember........Hope this helps....Here's a link to everything you need to know.....

Thanks for the quick responses, I will be following the builds. I was wondering about early Camaro headers, I recall using them back in the day but I had to ding them a liittle around the steering box with the big block.

No need to modify the headers I bought. They slipped right in.

Can someone point out to me where I can get one of these smaller gearboxes that mount in the factory location?
