Default Interesting Swap Idea 4.3

I read online that the 4.3 engine is the same as a 350 just with 2 less cylinders meaning it's gotta be pretty easy to give it some power. I was wondering how hard it would be to do a 4.3 swap in a '93 Camaro 3.4?

A lot of work for a very small reward. If you are going to do a swap, at least put something powerful in.

Yeah, that's gonna be a good bit of work, time, and money for not a lot of payoff. The 3.4 uses a different bolt bellhousing on the transmission so that will have to be changed. There will have to be a good bit of rewiring involved. Most likely the motor and trans mounts will have to be relocated. Honestly it would be just as much work, and probably cost, involved as if you swapped to a V8.

I have seen some street rods running carb'd 4.3s. The ones I have talked to say they have plenty of power for just cruising around. Then again most of these have been kit cars that had no drivetrain to begin with, so a donor 4.3 drivetrain from an S10 was great for their application.

A 5.3l swap would probably be cheaper and easier

Hop up parts are out there for the 4.3 (you're right, its pretty much a 350 with the rear cylinders lopped off), but in the end a good ol' tree fiddy would be just as much work and have 10 times the options.

Better not give that goddamn lockness monster tree fiddy... Not sure if thats what you were quoting or not but it reminded me of it. Anyhow I recieved a PM about a 5.3 swap and i'm thinking thats the way to go. If anyone could give me a little more info on that it would be great, such as what k member do i need to use,.wiring harness, computer, tranny, etc... Thanks all

4.3's are crap. I own 2. They are gas hogs and not overly powerfull and parts are not everywhere. %.3 is the only way to go, you could even hold out and get an all aluminum block and not not have any weight gain.

I've swapped both motors into Jeeps before. . They are good low speed /torque motors, but its not anything I'd swap into a car.

They weigh about 425 lbs. An aluminum block LS motor also weights 425. Ive personally hung both from a scale on my cherry picker. (I'm pretty weight conscious on my Jeep builds, to keep them on top of the sand and snow...).

The big limitation is the cylinder heads, you're pretty much limited to factory heads, and none of them flow good. If you build them up quite a bit, you can push 300hp... I believe hot rod did a build to show what it takes to get 300hp (on an engine dyno) thats probably still under what any bone stock 5.3 makes, measured the same way.

Somebody had a 3k mile 2011 Camaro V6 and auto trans on E-Bay a few days ago with a buy-it-now of $1500. Prolly gone by now though...

I would take that 4.3 and throw ot off of a bridge. Ive got two of them with slung rods.

On a positive note they make great boat anchors...
