S197 Mustang/LSX
Now shopping for a 2012-2013 Mustang V6 w/manual trans. I will change out the rear for an 8.8 then sell off the drive train. Currently gathering engine parts for an 3.622 x 4.170 LSX396. Does anyone have any idea who makes an aftermarket K member for this swap? Any headers available? I know this is not a popular build. I'm retired GM / never owned a FORD, but it's the most cost effective build as I see it. If I could have done an S60 rear swap in a new Camaro I would have done that. Total cost Camaro mods and rear, about $5000+. S197 Mustang 8.8 rear cost, $1000. 2 hour swap out job. Thanks for any info.

There is a guy on here that did this swap. I dont remember his screen name, but just try the search function with s197 in it and I would bet it shows up. Good luck with your build and keep is posted!

Just an update. I found the 2012 Mustang V6 with 6 speed and 2.73 8.8 rear. I'm going to swap in a 3.31 rear and then change the trans to a Magnum XL. At that point I hope to have the engine ready to dyno with the controler and wiring ready. I want the engine ready and running when it goes into the car. Big issue is the shifter location. The difference between the ford magum XL and Chevy T56 trans is 9". Not sure how to handle this. I'd like to run the XL trans behind the V6 for a while before I drop in the LS engine. I have a set of new LS3 heads and intake already. Looking to buy the block soon.

I always thought that would be a good swap and I have yet to see anyone do it. An `05-`09 Mustang with an LS3 eRod motor so it can be easily smog certified even here in Cali. There are many of those roaming the roads with the 4.0 boat anchor V6 engines and to find a real nice one with an engine fire or a case of "I ran it out of oil" would be nice. They are well supported in the aftermarket, have 8.8 dif. have good brakes even stock and have a stiff platform and are decent handling cars. I think they are SN197's

This is old do they make specific headers for this swap yet?

That's my Drag week build. I started with a set of Fbody shorties, used 4" from the flange and fabbed the rest. I tried several sets of headers but all needed some fab. The problem is the kickup for the lower strut that faces rearward.
