Default Fb rx7, ls3, t56, 8.8 fast and cheap

I don't come on tech much lately, just nothing like it used to be here with all the retarded kids. But alas I figure this will help a few people out, so here is a rundown of my latest build.

I grew tired of my camaro, again, so I parted it and crushed the body, it was in poor condition anyway. I wanted to go fast with a t56 again and knowing their limitations it was going to have to be light, and cheap. The only option In this case is an FB.

I had a built ls3 and built 4l60, so that got traded for a t56. In short time I found a suitable roller for a great price and picked it up, 84 gs In the great blue I like. This happened on may 15th 2013

It's in Good shape with the only rust being in front of the rear tires and the upper control arm/wheel well area.
At this point I laid out doing 5 lug, brakes, and modding the steering and oil pan. **** THAT. Picked up a complete tII front suspension and steering column.

That was done as well. At this point I gathered 2 8.8s and shortened one with 3.73s and limited slip, and installed that.

I settled on gto engine stands so I would have a vertical plane to adjust engine height, or to add rubber mounts. So I welded up some pads on the subframe and use a stack of washers as my solid mount, I will make aluminum spacers next time it is out. At this time I also built a quick battery box.

For the trans crossmember I cut the factory mount bubbles off and reattached them toward the rear. The crossmember is a piece of bent pipe, this give me allot of exhaust room and again a vertical plane for adjustment of height.

As parts came in I did my integra speedo conversion and stripped the engine harness. In my camaro I ran bbe 1.75" headers 2.5" y and a single 3" exhaust, it was terrible. I knew that with the proper exhaust I could get around 540whp, but good luck finding it premade. So I ordered everything and got to work.

Headers are 1/2" flanges, because I hate leaks, and 2" 16ga stainless. Collectors are slip on 2"/3" velocity merge ebay pieces which are fantastic for the price. Equal length was not going to happen with 2" though I tried, but shortest tube is 27" and longest is 33".
It took probably 9 different layouts to get a good fit and be able to remove the starter etc. I do have to remove the starter and lift the motor to get the pass side in, drivers goes in with one hand.
As you can see they fit like a glove and tuck up very tight, they are not lower than the trans, oil pan, or crossmember.

Tis week I built a watts bracket, since grannies is impossible to work with, and got the driveshaft length set. I used my stock camaro shaft and the stub off the explorer 8.8 since they use the same size tube just cut to length and put together.

26x7.5-15 Mickey sportsmans I had laying around on FC 15x6 rims, 34# each total

Howe radiator, hoses done, plugs and wires in, wiring done, brakes almost done. Waiting on front brake hoses and the fuel system currently. It is home in the garage at least to finish small stuff and get it running

Feel free to ask any questions and I will respond best I can and include pictures if needed

Do you have any photos of the speedo conversion? So far the swap looks great. Should be a fun car.

The speedo conversion is one thing I did not take pics of. I removed the guts of both and swapped faceplates, the wiring attaches to appropriate screws on the back of the unit. It is mounted with 2 screws drilled through the circuit board and spaced with nylon spacers. When itiwas done I filled the back cavity with a bunch of silicone to prevent vibration

As an update, finished the car last week and have about 75 miles on it now. It's pretty much rediculous to drive. Ran around with open headers for awhile and yesterday I built the front half of the exhaust.
It is all stainless dual 3" with x pipe, dynomax short bullets in the front and another set of full size bullets going in the rear.

Short 2nd and 3rd gear pull, 30-95 or so with open headers

Idle vid yesterday with the half exhaust on it

Still needs a bunch of work, has a front end shake and needs alignment. It hooks incredibly well even on these **** 215 snow tires

For reference the build is

Forged ls3 378"
706 heads 2.02 1.6 valves ported
12.28 compression
Eps 238/246 111+3
Super victor, accel 1250cfm 4150 tb
2" headers dual 3" exhaust
Monster stage 2 and t56
8.8 axle with 3.73 gear

Btw, it weighs 2550# with a full tank and no driver, and I have done no weight reduction anywhere yet.

Kind of, it's STANGKILR's old nitrous motor out of the silver camaro. It was blown to **** all I saved were the block and rods. New pistons, crank ground bearings. Probably have $2600 in the shortblock

yes it is all TIG welded, I made the entire setup from the x-pipe back on Thursday.

Here is a video introducing the car, I have 320 miles on it now and have been working some of the bugs out of it

I have a 79' sitting in the side yard...

I'd be more interested in the mounts, pan, accessories. What radiator did you use ? Swap parts and mounting were used. .?!

GTO stands
f-body oil pan and accessories
Radiator is a Howe shelf item,#342AA, 27"x16.5"x3". getting rid of all the FB stuff up front allowed me to cut the tension rod brackets off and run a much larger radiator.
Mounts were all made in the shop

Being that its such a tin can, its just too loud inside with the bullets. I ordered some round magnaflows for it. Also ordered new wheel studs so I can get my drag radials put on.

I got after it pretty hard yesterday with the 215 snow tires on the back, bent one of the lower control arms LOL. So I need to pick up the steel to sleeve those this weekend.

Nice fabwork! Don't see too many here making their own mounts, headers, driveshafts and such.

Are you replacing the front shorty or rear full length bullets?

I am replacing the rear full length bullets, the shortys are permanent and just used to get rid of the rasp

It has plenty big brakes, 10.5" turbo 2 brakes and 4 piston calipers in front, 10.5" disks in back. god damn thing stops on a dime it actually has a little TOO MUCH brake they are touchy
Tires got put on the car last night but will change the studs this week. Running BFG 235/60-15 drag radials. That is plenty of tire at this weight to run bottom 10s and still last a couple thousand street miles
