Ls1/T56 into 67 camaro
I am fairly new to this forum and just purchased my 67 camaro last year for my 30th bday. I bought the car off ebay after looking at several local cars (which were not worth the money). I am more than pleased with my purchase. I had the tranny rebuilt and upgraded the front brakes and totally redid the front end (doing all of the work myself). Is/was a great weekend driver. Drove the car for about a year and decided to do some sort of swap. Was originally going to drop a 383 in it but decided to go Ls1/T56. My car was originally a manual car so I wanted to stay with that. My older brother had an Ls1 out of his 98 vette in his garage with only 30k miles on it so I purchased that from him.

Sweet Ride! I see you have a 98 engine. Even if you have the harness and pcm with it I would reccommend upgrading to the newer electronics(99 up) as the 98 PCM is bad about bricking. Plus the PCMs are getting harder to find and will eventually get harder to find.
We offer complete kits, from motor mounts and fuel systems to custom hand build new engine harnesses and PCMs for your swap. Feel free to give us a call if you need anything. Ill be watching this thread, I would love to see some more pictures of that car!

First order of business was to remove the old motor/tranny. I was able to pull the exhaust, driveshaft, muncie and bellhousing/clutch pretty easily. Getting the motor out was a little more time consuming but still wasn't bad at all. I plan on cleaning out the engine bay and hitting it with a flat black color to get some uniformity in color under the hood.

Welcome to the Forum.. Great looking Camaro there.. There are many documented Build Thread that you can use to research the many ways to get the swap done.
Many of the members and vendor will be more than helpful in answering your questions and give you advise... Would key in on the main area of concern.. oil pan and header/manifold. With that in mind, the type of Adapter will then be suggested based on that.
Wiring and PCM is key also. don't cheap out there. .many just pay the price with the cheap knock offs and jobs.
What have you come up with so far ?.. what engine and trans yet ?

I am actually well into my build. I went with the GM Muscle car oil pan. The motor is a 98vette and the T56 is from a GTO. I went with BRPhotrod mounts and I will be going with a set of their headers, although I haven't purchased them yet. Still debating on which set of the longtube headers I want to go with. The motor and trans is mounted in the car. I was lucky that my driveshaft will not need to be modified. I went with corvette LS1 bracket and alternator relocation kit from ebay and all new accessories (with warranties lol) from Autozone/midway/oreilly's. I was thinking of going with the Mcleod hydraulic conversion kit to reuse my stock pedals. I still need to order the drive by cable throttle body and a starter. I am going to make a few phone calls and talk to a few companies before I order my wiring harness/pcm. I am thinking of purchasing an external pump/regulator unless my tank is in bad shape. I am going to check that before I make my decision. I may just order the tank/pump/sending unit as a package. I will be upgrading my leaf springs and possibly putting coilovers on the front. I have monoleafs on the rear but it seems to be alot softer than the front so I have purchased a set of multi leaf springs and everything needed to convert mine from mono-multi. I am fortunate as to live near Firewheel classics who stock almost everything for the 1st gen camaro.

I need a little advice. I am trying to decide what direction to go as far as fuel delivery. I looked at an external pump but if you go that route a sump will need to be added to my factory tank and by the time I do that I could get a new pump with internal pump and sending unit. Any advice.............?

For most street / strip setups. .I recommend In Tank pumps (at least up to 425-ish rwhp ?).. less noise and longer services life.
I added a TanksINC setup to my Nova project. Follow the link in my sig for the Nova project. Many are using them, you might look into them. Page #11 / Post #201.. I went a little extra and did end up putting a little sump in.
For the more higher cost and/or HP output. Aeromotive seems to have great setups.
Another Alternative is to use a F-Body pump setup (Vettework has a adapter right to use). But one word of warning.. You tank is very shallow and might require shorting up the unit some.

So I am finally getting back to my swap. I ordered a EFI Tank setup from Tanks Inc. and a wiring harness from PSI Conversion. Hopefully I will get the tank in next weekend and start getting the harness in place and wired in. Only have a few more items left and I should be able to get her started. I will be ordering a Griffin aluminum LS series radiator, Mcleod Hydraulic clutch conversion kit and longtube headers in the coming weeks.

Im also currently doing an ls swap on my 68 Camaro. Did you have to do any crossmember cutting to get the motor to fit with that muscle car pan? im going to be running the same one. Is your motor in the stock location?

I didn't have to cut the crossmember, but I'm not running ac. If you run the ac compressor in the stock location you will have to notch it a little for it to clear. It fits perfectly. Not too far gorward or too close to the firewall. I am very pleased.

I will get an exact measurement tomorrow. I was fortunate and shouldn't have to touch the driveshaft. I am down to the home stretch. All I have left is to order the Computer, headers, new gauge cluster (going with the dakota digital vhx gauge), clutch master cylinder conversion kit and a new street shift lever for my tranny. I am really getting anxious to atleast fire the motor. Will post more pics soon. I took a few with my phone but the resolution is too high.
