Well not much to report, just picking my way through some wiring.
I did power up the electrical system today to test some things, good news is the spoiler works!
Sucks the switch is so hard to get to.
Got the expected air bag, low coolant and low oil lights right off the bat.
Any of you other 996 guys know where i can get a key on power wire in the rear relay panel? I have tried but its hard to do it by myself, any help would be much appreciated!

i had tried to use the 996's O2 sensors, but those ended up keeping power for ~2 minutes after the key was removed; I ended up going directly to the ignition switch, that's also what RH recommends...in the end I ran a small bundle of ~6 wires (ignition on, CEL, Fuel Pump, Radiator fans,...) plus the OBDII & Throttle pedal wiring under the carpet, so it's all hidden and protected.
Thanks guys i ended up finding a couple, just for future reference there is a plug under the console for a factory phone that is switched power. I used that to trigger a relay. My last exhaust parts should be here tomorrow so fire up should be this week.
Speaking of ignition switches... Do be aware that the ignition switches on these cars frequently go bad, symptoms are a difficult to remove ignition switch or a switch the is difficult to turn. Two fixes: one is to swap to a new upgraded assembly including key, the other is just to swap the electrics which will eventually fail again but are cheap. The Audi part costs significantly less than the Porsche part of course. Do NOT buy a Chinese knock off or you'll be treated to electrical gremlins and drained battery - drained battery being one of the symptoms that will have you chasing your tail. BTDT....
Mine did the stiff to turn and hard to remove symptoms, replaced it with Chinese junk and got phantom power draw and auto wipers that worked with the key out.... Replaced it again with the VW part and all symptoms gone! I really suspected I'd have to do the lock cylinder based on the difficulty removing the key but nope, the cheap electrical part solved it. No way was I willing to pay for that lock cylinder and the hassle to install it if I didn't have to lol
Install of that switch isn't really hard. I opened up my knockoff switch to see wtf was inside - it's nothing but brass fingers and wipers. No idea how something so "simple" could cause so many issues...
My new "German made" switch showed up today and first thing i saw was made in china on the forking box.......not happy! I will call the closest Audi dealer tomorrow to see if they may have one.
Bought mine from Pelican, both of them. First was the cheapie, second was the German Bosch part that proved to be correct. Don't buy off of Amazon, nothing but horror stories from what I've seen. 6speed guys can provide part numbers and additional sources if you check in over there.
Not sure if your using the Porsche water temp, if you are and yours acts like mine, your gonna need a Porsche ECU power toggle switch under your dash, cause at random times your Water temp will stop working till you reset your Porsche ECU. Sometimes it will go for days/weeks, sometimes every day. Renegade is aware and was trying to find a fix or reason, not sure if they did yet.
I am using the 911 temp sensor, so you have a switch to turn the porsche ecu off then back on?
Also while we are talking, you used the GM harness and ecu. Did you use the tach wire from the bulkhead connector?
