Default 4x4 Colorado swap question

hello everyone.

I am seriously thinking about an extended cab colorado/canyon LS swap. MY 4wd question is this... besides the additional weight, are their any other disadvantages to having 4wd? Please list anything you can think of. I only need 4wd maybe 8-12 days a year, but those days I NEED 4wd!

thanks in advance for your help

does 4wd stay "engaged" like an awd system does? will it hurt it at all??

What year? The later model ones already come from the factory with an LS engine.

My 07 has push button 4x4. I have kicked around the idea of swapping one of the LS engines that are under the bench. Biggest challenge will likely be clearance to the front diff for the oil pan or possibly running the TBSS oil pan with integrated front diff.

I don't believe the 5.3L in the Colorado was ever offered with 4x4...

This doesn't seem like a trivial swap at all.

Yes they are, there are more 5.3 4x4 colorados than there are 2wd 5.3 colorados

Take a look at an H3 transfer case and front diff. They were full time 4wd and could get one with a 5.3. The transfer case was 4hi unlocked, 4hi locked, 4low. The front diff was always engaged like the escalades and Denalis. That tcase might just bolt into a Colorado. They were very similar to the h3, but different.

so looks like its always "engaged" in some way. im worried about maybe over-revving the t-case or something. maybe 2wd and a set of snow tires with some weight in the back might have to do it....

The TCASe is not a weak link, depending on the power your trying to hit, Rod hall had almost 700 hp through them back in the BAJA 1000 days and the transfer cases really were not a factor. (NP241) And that was catching air at 100mph and spinning the tires at landing..

I converted my Jeep Wrangler to hubs , it didn't even buy me a mile to the gallon. I had a "always engaged" axle prior, the only benefit was a slightly quieter power train on the freeway..

You can always convert to a part time transfer case its not real hard unless you have the stability control setup like the escalade.. There there is a computer implication as far as the traction control system ..

Lots of folks converted to part time transfer cases just to reduce the service issues in the Yukons and Escalades..

Cheers

Default Info needed

Okay guess I'm in the process of installing a 5.3ls into my 2011 chevy Colorado.
I have current performance engine mounts AND I cannot clear the front differential no matter what. I can get the passanger side mount in just fine and the driver side is way off and the motor is tight against the diff and pretty straight!! Please let me know what you thing.

In the Colorado 4x4's that came with 5.3's, I believe they had a special pan that the front diff bolted to, or at least had more clearance for
