Default small external fuel pump

Sorry for the non-ls question, but theres a giant pile of smart and experience here.
Im swapping an ecotec 2.2 into something and need an external fuel pump. ideally something fairly cheap but reliable.
ill be using all the factory electronics and stuff from a 03 pontiac grand am.
Ill do a walbro gsl392 if i have to but it seems way overkill. the motor shouldnt ever see beyond 3000 rpm in this application and its 100% stock.
thanks for the help

Did you ever think about using the factory ecotec 2.2 fuel pump/bucket in the new project vehicle?

what year motor? the 2006 2.4 I used in a swap needed 58psi so I went with a chinese bosch 044 copy. Also ended up adding an adjustable regulator, as what I thought was the on-rail regulator was actually just a dampener.

its an 03 motor.
Id love to use the factory bucket but the tank is about 6" wide and the sender hole is about 2" across. its a plastic tank so my tig just wont help.

I've had the most difficult time working with wood and plastic. For some reason I can't get my TIG welder or plasma cutter to light up on those materials either. Haha.

Now I'm curious... what are you building with the ectotec? Pictures please.

its a bobcat 742. i got it with a blown up motor and i wasnt able to find a solution to that for a reasonable cost and then id still have that shitty ford industrial motor. the one with a window in the block i have was a rebuild. those motors just dont seem to survive long.
so i bought a 03 pontiac grand am and im going for it. i figure going from 40hp to 140 hp should be fun.
i pressed the ring off the flywheel and drilled the bolt pattern in it for the ecotec torque converter. made some spacers to get everything lined up(hopefully, i find out today or tomorrow)

i was hoping to get a reliable pump for somewhere in the $40 range. maybe ill check around on ebay.

ok I think the 03 2.2's had an actual return system. maybe look up the specs for what FP it needs...I have been told SOME early ecotecs use 43.5 base pressure. a cheap 044 oughta be just the ticket. Sounds like an awesome swap. I have had my eye on a couple mini skid steers at the local auction....you can get them cheap but I'm wary of clapped out hydro rams and lines....that can get expensive fast!

The motor i have has what im pretty sure is a return style pressure regulator built into the rail, so i should be good there.

im a heck of a lot less scared of hoses and cylinders than i am of the pump and valve bodies. a couple years ago i snagged an old terramite t5 that had to have been sitting for a decade. I threw a carb on it and it fired up. almost every hose and every cylinder had to be rebuilt/replaced. i had zero documentation and had to figure out all the seal kits on my own. it was actually kinda fun.

anyway, has anyone used one of these before?

The 044 moves a ton of fuel and i heard theyre physically huge.

I think we have to rename this forum "Ecotec Industrial Conversions"...LOL...... Actually this is cool stuff and DOES relate to what we discuss here all the time.

I agree. That is a cool use for the engine and I'm sorry but if the previous engine was made by ford... it says a lot.

I've never used the pump linked but I see no reason why it wouldn't work for your application.

This sounds like a fun project and a good way to get a skid steer on a budget. I'm all about that DIY budget stuff! If you have room to own one a skid steer is so useful it's not even funny.

I've got a used inline 255 that would probably work.
