Aftermarket wiring harness preferences?
I'm building a street rod and getting ready to wire the car. I have a GM harness for the motor, which is an LS3 crate motor, and now I need a harness for everything else in the car. I keep going back and forth between Painless Wiring and American Autowire. Anybody had experiences with either of these brands or others? Which ones do you like and why? Thanks!

I have used the American Autowire and liked it. I do NOT like any wiring system where the fuse panel is hard wired because adding a circuit is a hassle. What you get with Painless and Autowire is quality wire and a board that is easy to work with. If you already have the wire check out Centech and Haywire fuse panels. A board should be laid out in three areas:battery, ignition and accessories.

+1 for American Auto Wire. I have their Classic Update kit in my 70 El Camino and my only complaint is that no pictures or words in their instruction manual said anything about where the hazard flasher plugged in. A very quick call to their help desk solved this, my only issue with AAW.

I used the American Autowire in my 1968 Camaro and I believe it is a quality kit with provisions for adding circuits. You have to make up many of the end fittings, but that allows you to troute the wires the way you like and get the right length.

+1 American Autowire. I thought instructions and diagrams were straight forward and easy to understand. Plenty of wire and extra connectors just in case. I even like the fact that they provided courtesy light sockets since I never had them originally.

I've used Painless on a half a dozen LS swap. Their 21? circuit kit. My only complaint is that the included directions are printed back in the 80's. No updates for years. They worked well.
