Thats a pretty neat swap. Those little merkurs are interesting cars and have more potential suspension wise etc. than most people give them. Looks like you got a good start on the swap as well. Good luck getting it finished up.

Accessorized
more stuff done today. got the accessories put on
trans 6 speed T-56 mounted in the tunnel. I little creative tunnel shaping and she fits nice. Just have to move it back 1/2 "
Hydro clutch mock up.
XR4 gas tank sender modded with Gm level sensor. I am using the GM sender along with fuel pressure sensor for when I make it smog legal.

****!!! i have wanted someone over here to do this swap for years!! im in the UK and we havee loads of XR4I kicking around, as well is the Cossies.
dose the 8.8 fit without modification to the rear subframe??
was there any work needed to get the T56 in there??
cant wait to see this thing once it built!!
Chris.
PS i think a coupld of turbos might fit in there to!! lol

Trans tunnel was just some banging on the underside of the tunnel. right under the blowerbox about 3" back. trans mount was a T-5 coversion piece that can be had for about $75 from a company called Rapido.
this swap would be a hell of alot easier if I switched to a compression strut design. trying to shove the T-56 trans up over the swaybay is where all the banging begins.
turbo's are in the future.

Cool....
Ive a Sierra Sapphire sitting at the house....maybe someday it'll get similar treatment.
There are guys selling compression strut kits here in the UK.

got some more work done this week. DBW pedal mount done, clutch master mount finished.
New carshop inc. oilpan came in and motor mounts. Nice piece similiar to the Autokraft pan.
Got the Corvette exhaust manifolds and cat's. I am happy they clear the steering shaft. so no moving of the steering rack.
Almost done. maybe by the end of this week it will be running.
