Default Carb Guys: Timing Question

Im asking this for a friend. He's got a 6.0 in an '82 S10. Its got 5.3 heads, MS4 cam, Edelbrock carb intake, shorty headers and the adjustable MSD timing controller. What do you reccommend for a base timing setting? Also, what would be considered as a 'max' setting?

He's gonna spray it in the future, but will be NA for now.

Thanks.

i have 15 degrees at idle, going up to 28 by 3000 rpm 28 is max with my setup i would suggest 24-26 with his since he has higher compression with the 5.3 heads. He should also run NGK TR6 plugs which are 1 stage colder. Is he running a MAP sensor?

With that cam you will probably need more initial timing maybe 20-22* from 0-1000rpms and as far as total timing he is probably going to have to do some adjusted, but I would start at 28* in by 3000rpms and go from there. I don't think there is any need to run colder plugs NA.
