Another A-Body: 72 Malibu
LT1 is long gone I finally got my hands on an LS motor. Just got back from MotoGP in Indy picked this up on the way home. Im going with the truck accessories, Edelbrock headers and adapters, and Autokraft pan. I am throwing in a moderate cam with a spring upgrade.

Welcome to the Forum.. That TKO-600 and 3.31 should be a good match up.
That Gen IV, Iron block engine that came out of a 07+ HD or 3/4 ton truck with a few mod should be a good replacement for the old Gen II / LT1.
For on 25k, looks like the engine had a bit of a hard life. Should be able to clean up that carbon and rust without too much problems. What are your plans for the engine.. rebuild, mod it (H/C), etc ???
Are you planning on using the Variable Timing setup or have it mod' out?

The carbon buildup isnt really that bad. Nothing is caked on. I pulled a valve cover and it look new inside. It was a midwest truck. 1 or 2 winters really make a motor ugly. Im used to it though.
For right now im just throwing in a 231/237 cam and springs and a full tune. VVT will be scrapped. With headers and an L76 intake, the goal is 400RWHP. Plans for next year is FI.
I really want this next year.

They are the new TVS 1900 Radix systems from Magnacharger. Front pulley and inlet is pretty sick! This is and evolution of their roots design to bump efficiency up one more notch. I think it would look killer under the hood of a Chevelle.

I received my L76 intake and LS2 Rail today. One mystery about the L76 intake with the 07+ truck water pump is if the throttle body fits. The older setups either require a car style WP and/or cable style throttle body.
Good news, it fits with the 87mm DBW throttle body. Now I dont need to swap the water pump or TB.
I will be taking my ECM to Larry at Speedinc this week to get a base file loaded for initial startup. After that I have to wait to sell my Prius to get the Autokraft pan and Eddy headers.
Until then, I will be detailing the block. Anyone care to guess what color paint will be used??

Most of the parts have arrived. I attached the Edelbrock adapter plates and bolted up the Prothane mounts. First test fit went well. I have had fit issues with Energy Suspension mounts so I tried the Prothane. Very simple and clean design with no preload plates and they fit great. Both holes line up.
I am using the factory 1972 350 frame stands that have never been unbolted. The bellhousing is about 1/2" apart from the block. I will slide the trans forward to compensate but I feel Edelbrock has done their homework. I also received the Edelbrock swap headers. They look great.
The headers have a 3.5" to 3" reducer and I'm thinking of changing to a 3" exhaust. I'm not sure if 3" is too much for a street 6.0 revving to 6500. Any input would be appreciated.

Ok, I will let the cat out of the bag. 2007 and up GM NNBS trucks with the iron 6.0 has L92 head castings. Head casting 823. Its basically an iron L76 without AFM and slightly lower compression. I picked mine up for $1800.00 with all accessories and harness/ecm with 25k miles. I saw one with 4 miles on ebay go for about the same.
With a mild cam and L76 intake, 400 RWHP is very easy.

Motor is in, but I have a question. The PS pump has two low pressure return inlets. Does it matter which one I cut off and weld up?
I used Andrew's GTO as template for my clutch setup.
Indexing the factory 621 bell. It was out .0035, within spec of Tremec's .005 max.

I planned on installing the engine and trans for a test fit then removing. After dicking around getting it in, I decided to leave it in for good.
I bled the clutch and I like the way it feels. Its firm like my last Ram 900 manual clutch but with about 1/2 the pedal travel. I should be able to bang gears with the quickness.
I test fit both headers and I am very impressed by them. I did have to remove the steering shaft the get the driver side in. Clearance is good all around except by the oil sending unit housing by the oil filter. I used the Z06 housing its very tight against the header. I should gain a tiny bit of clearance when I install the header gasket, but not much.
The fuel system has been completed using the Vette filter/regulator. As previous posts noted, I did have to grind the Russell adapter to fit them on the inlet/return side. For the outlet/feed I used a Napa tube cut off with a Swagelok stainless compression 3/8" to -6an adapter. I used the SS-600-6-6AN. It was $15.00 and very easy to install. Hopefully it doesnt leak. I have to give Harris Speedworks props again for the fast service making the teflon braided return hose. I might try building braided hoses one day, but I prefer to have a pro build them for me.
My harness should be in by early next week. The goal is to fire it by the end of December.

Have you thought about saving the other low pressure return for a hydroboost? You could possibly trim it shorter and cap it for later. Another option is to weld/braze a AN fitting on the reservoir. Looks like you're making good progress.
